Project Update: Transforming US 59 🚧 With the rise in traffic demands, the need for a seamless, interstate-quality road along US 59 has never been more urgent. Volkert is proud to support TxDOT's efforts in the Yoakum District, delivering Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) services for the US 59 transformation in Wharton County—just 60 miles southwest of Houston. This critical 8.3-mile section serves as both a local lifeline and a major artery for statewide traffic. Once complete, this stretch of I-69 will feature: 🔵 Six main travel lanes (three in each direction) with 12-foot shoulders 🔵 Four frontage road lanes with inside and outside shoulders 🔵 Improved access through modern entrance and exit ramps Currently, we’re excited to report the project is 65% complete and moving steadily toward enhancing both capacity and safety on this vital corridor. #ThisIsVolkertTexas #I69Project #CEIServices #TexasInfrastructure #TransportationTransformation

Last Thursday, our American Council of Engineering Companies of Florida (ACEC Florida) Transportation Committee membership experienced a master class in transportation vision, policy and approach. If you have wondered where the Florida Department of Transportation is headed and how they're going to get there, wonder no more! Thanks to FDOT Secretary Jared W. Perdue, P.E. for taking the time to set the stage, identify the challenges we face but more importantly, describe in detail the ways we will overcome these challenges together. Key to his remarks was encouraging all of us to reach new heights of intensity and engagement in areas that historically we as engineers have ignored. Who best to educate, inform and influence legislative policy at the state level than us as engineers? Who best to lobby for more formula funding of critically important projects that have the potential to drastically improve safety and reduce congestion than us as citizens of Central Florida? Why can't we lead with facts and data when it comes to removing factors from Federal policy that have little to nothing to do with efficiently and effectively delivering needed transportation infrastructure? "The change you want to see is the change you need to advocate for." For far too long, we have stayed on the sidelines and let others tackle these issues without the benefit of the knowledge, expertise and wisdom engineers use on a daily basis to improve our communities. As we embark on a new level of partnership with FDOT, we must embrace Secretary Perdue's call to action which most importantly for me, includes building a "culture of continuous improvement." As FDOT District 5 Secretary John Tyler, PE said in his remarks during last Wednesday's FDOT District 5 Development Partnering Forum, "fortune favors the bold." It also favors those that are aware, improving and willing to engage. I am thankful for the strong leadership we have here in Florida... it's simply not like this everywhere!

Decision makers who are looking for substitutions to save money may not always have full insight why certain products were selected and specified in the first place, ending up with lesser performance or protection of the building, and possibly causing issues that will be very costly to control or repair in the longer run. Dr. John Straube from RDH Building Science explains the risks that are inherent to substitutions.
“Value engineering and product substitutions has become a normal way of life in the construction process,” says University of Waterloo professor Dr. John Straube. “However, it comes with some pretty significant risks.” We interviewed Dr. Straube to get his insights on a critical building industry topic—ensuring the highest quality—as well as why product substitutions need to be handled with the utmost care. ⚠️ Watch the full interview and learn more here https://buff.ly/3W6XCv4 #ValueEngineering #BuildingIndustry #ScienceOfProtection #rdh #delta #airbarrier

Safety is one of WisDOT’s top priorities, which includes work zone safety and minimizing delays for the traveling public. To help achieve these goals, TADI collaborated with WisDOT on a comprehensive solution - a standardized tool designed to predict work zone queues and delays. It is named the Work Zone Traffic Analysis Tool (WZTAT), and it helps engineers and construction managers choose time periods for lane closures. The WZTAT comes equipped with numerous capabilities including: · annual volume imports · analysis of multiple lane closure scenarios · outputs for Transportation Management Plans (TMPs) · local road diversion volume estimates · Wisconsin-specific work zone capacity and queue models Please mark your calendars for April 23 where WisDOT, along with TADI's John Campbell, P.E., RSP2 and Christian Sternke, P.E., RSP2I will present the new tool at the ITE Traffic Engineering Workshop in Waukesha, WI.
