AVON IN ACTION: USSOCOM CBRN RDAX 2024 – The Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Research, Development, Acquisition Experiment (RDAX) is a training event that allows U.S. special operations forces (SOF) and industry leaders to test new CBRN defense technologies in realistic scenarios. The goal is to improve operational effectiveness for warfighters by identifying and evaluating new technologies that address capability gaps. Dubbed “Operation Dragon Spear”, The experiment is hosted by the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) in conjunction with the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense-JPEO-CBRND, and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. The experiment took place at Guardian Centers of Georgia LLC. and includes training scenarios designed to simulate the environment and operational challenges of a CBRN-contested space. Special operators provide real-time feedback on equipment that is still being developed. Selected defense industry participants – such as Avon Protection, showcase new technologies, tactical equipment and decontamination materials designed specifically for the advanced warfighter in austere environments. In this scenario, operators from the 75th Ranger Regiment, U.S. Army are tasked with conducting recovery of key personnel following the destruction from a nuclear detonation. Technology used allows the operators to map “hot spots” of radiation so they can avoid them while locating and evacuating staff with decreased effects from residual hazards. ☢️👀 Norway has contracted Bertin Environics for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear defense (CBRN) squad kits. Under the seven-year framework, Bertin will supply an undisclosed number of ChemProX handheld chemical detectors and SaphyRad MS multiprobe radiation survey meters to detect and monitor chemical warfare agents and toxic industrial chemicals and materials in the field. “Together we are stronger, this award is a great example of the synergies we have gained. Great to see these DoD+AUS discussions including both R&E and A&S leadership, which represents the entire cradle-to-grave acquisition spectrum! The NDIS and RSF are smart strategies, but this shows that they will also move towards "executable" in support of US and Australian national defense (sorry Australia, "defence") goals. 💥💥 The US has conducted back-to-back tests of its Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile to validate its nuclear deterrence capabilities. The first test, which occurred on June 4, involved an unarmed ICBM being launched from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. And so the United States returns to the same threats that were dealt with during President Reagan’s Administration and the Development of the “Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI)”. A Program that was dissolved & minimalized into Theater Missile Defense. During my Air Force activities (1973 - 74) I was stationed at the 26th NORAD Air Division at Luke Air Force Base, AZ and saw the dissolution of combined U.S. Air Force & Army Air Defense assets and the incorporation of U.S. Navy & Marine Aviation providing Air Defense of the Southwest United States; from El Paso,TX to San Diego, CA to the California-Oregon border. It was noteworthy that although aviation assets were effective with precision defense, when the U.S. Army launched its Nike-Hercules missiles (HE or Nuclear) at long distance and Hawk missiles (HE) at medium-short distance, they provided quick, massive air defense measured in 10s of miles at a significant distance from the U.S. West Coast against airborne threats (aircraft & missiles). After leaving the USAF, I assisted the Royal Saudi Air Force (1977 - 79) to establish and implement its first Air Defense capability. The Nuclear ICBM missile threat to the United States Homeland is Real, Visible and Pronounced - North Korea keeps coming in capability, capacity and in collaboration with Russia, Iran and China. Adding to the absolute requirement for the United States Homeland to be defended in new Polices, new authorities, urgency to vastly increase capabilities, capacity and priority of resourcing. The North Korean launch last night is a reality check for the missile defense of our US Homeland and its priority for our National Security. Our nation’s homeland relies upon on the reliability of our Ground Based Missile Defense System that is operational deployed in Alaska and California and our War Fighter Commanders and Operators of NORTHCOM - NORAD - SMDC - 100th Missile Defense Brigade, 49th Missile Defense Battalion, which we recognized and honored last Friday for this critical noble mission. This GMD system with urgency must have much more capacity and reliability then it does today of 44 Ground Based Interceptors made up of two old generational interceptors types. This GMD system with urgency must have more capacity and reliability for discrimination, tracking and targeting with sensors in space and on land. The nation and its homeland awaits with urgency for the next generation interceptors, full operations of the LRDR and constellations of space based discrimination sensors. The U.S. Homeland cannot be confidently and adequately defended today from missiles and drones without major changes of US Defense Policy to have adequate reliability in capacity and capabilities of US Homeland missile defenses combined with left of launch strike and nuclear deterrence. https://lnkd.in/enDnbHiq
