Despite our best efforts, frustrations, stress, and negativity often find a way to seep into our interactions. But here's the thing: acknowledging these emotions is the first step to overcoming them! Feeling weighed down by frustrations from home? It's okay to admit it. Communicate with your team, let them know it's not about them, and then collectively shift focus onto the tasks at hand. Caught snapping at a colleague? Take a breath, apologize sincerely, and commit to doing better next time. Once said, a lifetime to live by. We live in a quick-reply world. It sadly extends beyond the small talk. Things are often spoken in a reactive fashion. This could be to a team member at work, or one's spouse or kids at home. In the moment it feels right. Moments later, not so much. Perhaps a better choice of words. Perhaps a better tone. Perhaps in a different setting. All you need is a pause. Pause for 3 seconds in that moment. And then delay the critical feedback by a day at least.
