Wimbledon starts today which means strawberries and cream will be on everyone’s minds once again 🍓 This year the colder and wetter weather meant that the UK summer strawberry season was slightly delayed, however the wait has produced larger and juicer strawberries, just in time for Wimbledon! In Florida there is even a Plant City Strawberry Festival where over 300,000 pounds of strawberries are transported every year. Did you know that the overall revenue of the British berry industry reached £1.87 billion over the last year! And it’s not just berries, the Fresh Produce market was valued at $62.52 billion in the US 2021 according to England Logistics. Pro Carrier can help you ship your produce, from berries to fresh fish and other perishable goods with our freight solutions, so why not give us a call? #supplychain #berryseason #freshproducetransportation

It never occurred to me that a cherry producer could teach us so much about supply chain visibility. Welcome to Cherry Hill Orchards! This is an Australian family owned business that is as eager to create transparency as they are with the quality of their product. The cherries are monitored from planting to harvest, picked, sent to a processing plant where they are sorted and packaged. Each batch is given a traceability code, and all process steps are registered as part of an end-to-end product life-cycle. The packages of cherries are distributed to retailers and supermarkets, where the traceability code allows the origin of the product to be traced back by the consumers, as well as the retailers themselves. Cherry Hill Orchards uses traceability to ensure that every cherry that reaches the end consumer is safe and of high quality, demonstrating a commitment to transparency and efficiency throughout the supply chain. After the arrival of the chicks, the farmer is often in a state of dilemma for several days. He frequently expresses concern that fewer chicks are at the feeder or drinker, despite all parameters (temperature, humidity, duty cycle, and light) being set correctly. During this period, the retention time of the chicks at the feeder or drinkers is quite short. In the first week, the feed consumption per chick per day ranges from 13 grams to 36 grams by the seventh day. This low feed intake is the reason, as we often observe that most of the chicks are resting. Only crop scores can provide insight into the chicks' comfort levels. By day three, if a chick's weight exceeds 100 grams, you have already made significant progress. #poultryventilation #poultry #poultryindustries #broiler

I'm often asked if I miss negotiating deals. The answer is, "not at all." I still do it. Two of the deals that I have been dealing with are shown in this picture of the tomato patch. Item #1 deals with the seeds for the row of tomatoes closest to my camera. The seeds that I ordered were for a sweet, thin-skinned, round yellow tomato that has less acid. The tomatoes that developed on many of the plants last year were red, not great in terms of flavor, and missile-shaped. (This seems to have been a widespread problem because one of the outfitters who stayed with us had the same experience.) I had purchased an ounce of the seeds (about 7,500 seeds). Since I use a commercial seed supplier, I followed up and they replaced the seeds. (There was nothing that could be done at the point where the issue was discovered last year. The supplier couldn't guarantee that the replacement seeds will be better, but the supplier and I have our fingers crossed. If the issue arises again this year, we will know that the problem may be at the farm from whom the supplier buys its seed. If that happens, the likely explanation is that the blossoms got cross-pollinated with a different tomato cultivar.) Item #2 deals with the stakes. I'd ordered 70 new metal stakes. They arrived in a timely manner. It turned out that I was a few stakes short though so I had to order about 10 more stakes. The additional stakes were scheduled to be delivered on Friday. They didn't arrive. The firm handling the shipping is providing me with different information than it is giving to the supplier. (The supplier is being told that the stakes were lost in transit. I'm being told the stakes will arrive by Thursday. If the stakes are lost in transit, how can the shipper know that the stakes will arrive by Thursday?) The scale is different between what I handle at my fourth-generation business and what I dealt with in the corporate world, but the issues are the same.
