Protect your Homestead Exemption after Hurricane damage: You may need to write a letter to the property appraisers office if you’re not residing in your home as of January 1st to avoid risking your homestead exemption. WE have seen Lee County driving around and they may assume the house is unoccupied. Informing them that you’re in the process of renovating will help clarify the situation. Sample letter below: "I am writing to inform you of the current occupancy status of my property located at [Property Address]. As a homeowner and homestead exemption recipient, I am committed to maintaining compliance with all requirements associated with the exemption. Due to ongoing renovations, I am not residing at the property as of January 1st, 2025. However, it is my intent to resume occupancy once the renovations are complete. I am notifying your office to ensure that the temporary unoccupied status does not jeopardize my homestead exemption, as the property remains my primary residence. Please let me know if there are any additional steps I should take to confirm this status and retain the exemption. "

POST HURRICANE UPDATE FROM ASI LANDSCAPE MANAGEMENT Firstly, we at ASI hope that you and your families are safe. Like many others, we are amazed at the raw power of this storm and the damage that it was able to cause. Next, we want to ensure that our ASI Team Members are safe and secure. Currently, our managers are out on the road, looking at all our client’s properties to assess any and all damages that may have occurred. While they are out doing this, we are compiling a priority list of properties that we will need to attend to first. At this moment, safety, accessibility, and damage severity are our top three priorities that we are looking at. This meaning the safety of our team and other citizens while helping clean up the damages, the accessibility of our team to be able to get in and out of the properties to properly complete these clean up processes, and the severity of the damages themselves. The types of properties that will be getting our attention first in our surveys will be hospitals and schools. We will have a better understanding of damages and our gameplan once we have completed our assessments. If you have any questions, we will be maintaining an open line of communication for our clients. We will get through this together!

Have you considered getting your yard summer storm ready? "This time of year, I often have conversations with customers about getting their trees “ready for hurricane season.” Summer in Richmond is notorious for random thunderstorms and other intense weather events, so here at Truetimber, we believe that having an arborist inspect your property is paramount-before these storms roll through. The primary reason for pre-hurricane tree inspections is to assess structural integrity. Trees that appear healthy on the outside may have internal decay or weak spots that compromise their ability to withstand strong winds. Having an arborist assess a tree’s integrity is a great first step in maintaining your property and protecting against sudden, unexpected damage. The last thing any homeowner wants is a failing tree causing damage to person or property. " - Tree Care Advisor Aidan Stewart Head over to our #urbanforestdweller article to read more on how and why you should prepare for these storms now! #truetimberarborists #drive #loyalty #respect #goodnatured #treelovers #treeservice #arborist #treework #treecare #treelife #treesurgeon #trees #arblife #tree #treeclimber #treeclimbing #arboriculture #arboristlife #treeworker #arboristsofinstagram #RVA

Check out this great piece from 2024 Annual Workshop for Journalists alumna, Marlowe Starling!
In late May, I made the drive from Miami to Tavernier, in the Florida Keys, in hopes of catching a glimpse of Florida Bay's newest residents: American Flamingos. In my first for National Audubon Society Magazine, I wrote about the pink waders' homecoming after Hurricane Idalia, and what that signals about the Everglades ecosystem and the birds' wider population status. Read it in print or online: https://lnkd.in/eN8j5dh9 Many thanks to Audubon Florida's Jerry Lorenz, Zoo Miami's Frank Ridgley, Steven Whitfield, Xiomara Gálvez Aguilera, and others who helped make this story complete.
