This past fall, we expanded the North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area (WMA) by more than 700 acres in partnership with The Nature Conservancy and The Conservation Fund. This WMA, comprised of nearly 200,000 acres of continuous public land, is home to some of Tennessee’s rarest and most spectacular species of birds and wildlife and one of the largest free-roaming elk populations east of the Mississippi. It provides bountiful opportunities for birdwatching, backcountry camping, hunting, and more. Beyond enhancing recreation and protecting critical wildlife habitat, this expansion helps to safeguard water quality along the New River. ➡️ Read more about this 2024 success: https://heyor.ca/bSLSiK

Colorado Wildlife Federation Opposes Mountain Lion and Bobcat Hunting Ban Proposition 127 - CWF supports regulated and ethical wildlife harvest for legitimate purposes as a basic principle of the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation. Proposition 127 aims to ban the harvest of mountain lions and bobcats through the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission and the Colorado State Legislature. If successful, this ballot initiative would prohibit the regulated hunting of mountain lions and bobcats and end a successful and highly regulated method of wildlife management, removing decisions about wildlife management from trained wildlife experts. Wildlife management is a science. When we alter the management of one species, it affects other wildlife species in the ecosystem. To avoid unintended consequences for people and other species, decisions should be based on science and driven by wildlife professionals. Regulated hunter harvest is the best tool available to Colorado Parks and Wildlife for managing Colorado’s wildlife populations. The Hunter's Contribution to Conservation – Why It Matters for Your Wallet & Wildlife As hunters, every license we buy and each piece of gear we add to our collection does more than just fuel our passion – it fuels wildlife conservation. Through the American System of Conservation Funding, our purchases fund state fish & wildlife agencies, ensuring thriving ecosystems and accessible public lands for future hunts. 🌲🐾 This “user pay – public benefit” cycle means: 1️⃣ More funding for wildlife management = better hunting experiences for us. 2️⃣ Access to well-maintained public lands without pricey private leases. 3️⃣ Stable permit costs over time – so our passion doesn’t break the bank. When we support conservation, we’re not just preserving habitats; we’re protecting our investment in the outdoors for years to come. https://lnkd.in/ew65hygU #ConservationFunding #WildlifeConservation #Hunting #SustainableOutdoors #HunterEconomics #AmericanConservation

Congress had sharp criticism for a proposed rule that would prioritize a climate change agenda over a proven hunting conservation strategy that has benefitted wildlife conservation and sportsmen and women. It’s not the first time, either. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s (USFWS) proposed Biological Integrity, Diversity and Environmental Health (BIDEH) rule update would implement a rule to “combat” climate change at the expense of wildlife conservation through hunting and angling. The proposal would put National Wildlife Refuge System (NWRS) decisions based solidly in Washington, D.C., and not in the hands of local biologists who are best positioned to make policy decisions for sustainable conservation. https://lnkd.in/gncWuQYT #BIDEH #USFWS #climatechange #wildlifeconservation

#bear #automobile #encroachment #habitatloss #death #biophilia #coexistence #halfearth #life #love #reverenceforlife #loveofJesus THE TRAGEDY: In a heart-wrenching incident, a rare white grizzly bear and her two cubs met their end on a Canadian highway, stirring deep sorrow among wildlife conservationists. The grizzly, known as Nakoda, and her cubs were killed in separate vehicle collisions on June 6, along a road between Lake Louise and Yoho National Parks. THE OSTENSIBLE CAUSE: Experts highlight that habituation to human presence often leads to tragic outcomes for wildlife. THE CUSTOMARY, VACUOUS SOLUTION: The poignant story of Nakoda and her cubs underscores the ongoing conflict between wildlife habitats and human infrastructure, a pressing issue that calls for continued efforts in wildlife Conservation and road safety. THE SOLE, VIABLE REMEDIATION: A reverence for life is an ethos of life affirmation, and as such, it is an ethos mandating that humans accept and discharge a duty of stewardship to all God's creatures. For wildlife, this duty is best discharged, exclusively so, by restricting large swaths of acreage for their existence, free from human meddling and depredation. Not such fragmentary sops as "wildlife conservation and road safety", but an actuality as God and nature intended. To do so is to confer the love of Jesus universally, as we are bid. This is a reverence for life.

Today, the American Wildlife Conservation Partners (AWCP) – comprised of the nation’s top 52 sporting-conservation organizations that represent America’s hunter-conservationists, professional wildlife and natural resource managers, outdoor recreation users, conservation educators, and wildlife scientists – released Wildlife for the 21st Century, Volume VII (W-21). This comprehensive publication focuses on solutions to conserve wildlife and their habitats across the nation, bolstering public access, and protecting our outdoor traditions. Every four years since AWCP was first convened in 2000, the partners have put forth their collective priorities in Wildlife for the 21st Century, which serves as the roadmap for AWCP’s vision for wildlife and sportsmen and sportswomen. “Our partners that make up AWCP should be proud of their ability to coalesce around a shared set of policy priorities which, should they be adopted, would produce real and meaningful benefits for hunters, habitat, and wildlife across the United States. It is a comprehensive suite of recommendations that can serve as a blueprint for conservation and hunting policy in the future,” said John Devney, AWCP Vice-Chair and Chief Policy Officer for Delta Waterfowl. Join Conservation Officer, Jess Price for this free Sussex Planning Network for Nature webinar - - Protecting Local Wildlife Sites. From mystical ancient woodlands to quiet churchyards and bustling flower-rich meadows, there are over 600 Local Wildlife Sites in Sussex. They provide vital spaces for wildlife, where special habitats can flourish. There is a general misconception that all the best nature conservation sites are nationally designated and legally protected. This is not the case. While Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) are crucially important, they represent only a small sample of our most important habitats and species. Many places are not designated as SSSIs, and have no legal protection despite being of equal or greater value for wildlife. So instead many of these places are designated locally as Local Wildlife Sites. This short webinar by the Sussex Wildlife Trust will explain why Local Wildlife Sites are so important, why the planning system can and should be protecting them and what you can do to help. Free webinar, registration essential: https://lnkd.in/e4f8mrd3
