Today, cars make it the most dangerous day of the year for children. After the end of school on Thursday, the risk of a child being killed or seriously injured by a car jumps by 43% in the US and by 34% in the UK. Cars have made our streets so hostile for children that when you put them near one another children die in large numbers. In a deeply depressing twist, in some communities, the fear has become so great that people have started to “Trunk or Treat”. Rather than letting children walk from house to house, people park cars in a circle, and children go from car trunk to car trunk to collect sweets.
