Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more popular, but concerns about battery degradation and replacement costs persist. EV batteries lose around 2.3% capacity per year, with most degradation happening in the first 80,000 kilometres. Even after 13 years, batteries retain about 70% capacity, and warranties cover significant losses for up to eight years or 160,000 kilometres. Whilst replacement costs range from $8,000 to $20,000, they are decreasing as technology improves. EVs remain cost-effective due to lower maintenance and fuel expenses. Let's debunk a few of the most common misconceptions: 1. EVs Are Too Expensive: While the initial cost of EVs can be higher than traditional vehicles, they often save money in the long run through lower fuel and maintenance costs. Plus, government incentives can help offset the purchase price. 2. They Have Limited Range: Many people believe that EVs can't travel far on a single charge. However, advancements in battery technology have significantly increased range, with many models now exceeding 200 miles on a full charge, making them suitable for most daily commutes. 3. Charging Takes Too Long: While charging does take longer than filling up a gas tank, many EV owners charge their vehicles overnight at home. Additionally, fast-charging stations can provide a substantial charge in as little as 30 minutes, making long trips more feasible. 4.
