Two weeks ago, I had the privilege of sharing the outcomes of three Industrial Application studies with #SMRs that we performed at TRACTEBEL over the years. These studies focused on thermal #desalination, #eFuel GigaFactory co-localization, and deep coupling with Heat Intensive #Manufacturing industries. 🚀 Conclusion: While several low-hanging fruits are there to build upon 🍎, a fair amount of brain horsepower is still needed to design the integration interfaces—a hot topic at both EPRI and TRACTEBEL right now! 🔥 Personal take on the meeting: I'm continually amazed by the technical pragmatism and project discipline of my counterparts in the manufacturing industry. My 3 a.m. question is how we can get our two worlds to symbiotically integrate, now with the organizational dimension as a key focus 🤔🌍.

Exxon is planning to build power generation strictly for data center use. While the electric grid's energy demands continue to rise, building a dedicated-use plant is a newer approach to the problem of powering data centers and AI. Several interesting articles have been written about developing small or full-scale nuclear for this use. Still, Exxon seems to be acknowledging that natural gas fuel is the only option that could be built in time to meet demand. https://lnkd.in/gyBt5nrK

Norway has only one per cent of Europe's population, but 20 per cent of the hydropower resources, 50 per cent of the water reservoirs (stored water for hydropower production), 40 per cent of the gas resources and 60 per cent of the oil resources. Norway's vision is that Norway should take a leading role as the first renewable and all-electric society in the world. They see SMR as part of their future energy mix. Norsk Kjernekraft aims to build, own and operate SMR power plants in Norway in collaboration with power-intensive industry. It says it will prepare licence applications in accordance with national regulations and international standards. It will follow the International Atomic Energy Agency's approach for milestones, and focus on what creates value in the early phase. Financing will take place in collaboration with capital-strong industry and solid financial players. Nuclear energy is gaining increasing attention in process industries, like the chemical sector, as a potential reliable source of power. As an example, oil and gas company Diamondback Energy has announced plans to deploy small nuclear reactors to supply power at drilling sites. Several chemical producers, including Dow, have announced similar plans in the the past. There are several players in this field right now offering small-scale nuclear technology to power industrial operations.
