Generative AI tools are revolutionizing our digital interactions, but there's an environmental cost many of us overlook. These powerful tools are straining local power grids and causing significant water evaporation, raising serious concerns about their sustainability. From personal experience, I've seen firsthand how technological advancements can outpace our infrastructure, causing unforeseen consequences. It's crucial for us to weigh the benefits of these tools against their environmental footprint. Are we doing enough to ensure a balance between innovation and sustainability? 🤔 Here are some thought-provoking points: - How can we mitigate the environmental impact of generative AI? - Are there sustainable alternatives or practices for everyday online usage? - What responsibility do tech companies have in addressing these issues? Let's spark a discussion on how we can innovate responsibly and protect our planet. #AI #GenerativeAI #Sustainability #EnvironmentalImpact #TechInnovation

Is there such a thing as socially sustainable AI? And if not, should we be doing more to make it happen? I've been listening to two interesting programmes about this recently that explore the human cost of AI - the most advanced technology is still heavily dependent on a huge workforce of low paid individuals processing data and moderating content. Most of this work is out-sourced to the global south. For those people who are employed to filter out the avalanche of awful stuff people (inexplicably) want to post online, these jobs can be deeply traumatising, and little support is available in practice. As AI creeps into every aspect of our lives, it is important that we all educate ourselves about this. As a global society, we must ensure that this latest frontier in human progress does not perpetuate the inequalities and suffering that are evident in our collective history to date.

Can AI improve lives around the world? Like other game-changing technologies before it, artificial intelligence is expected to unleash new wealth creation, resource reallocation and societal change. But the precise forms that this will take – and at what speed – is difficult to predict. Richard Mylles, the author of a new UBS Sustainability and Impact Institute report on the theme, joins us to explain how AI's consequences for human capital can be optimised, focusing on education, productivity and health.

Ever wondered how the power of Artificial Intelligence can contribute to our fight against climate change? The answer is Green AI, a burgeoning field that holds immense potential for environmental sustainability. Instead of simply making processes more efficient, Green AI is all about redesigning algorithms and models to make them more environmentally friendly. By reducing energy consumption and carbon footprint. What other ways can you envision AI contributing to environmental sustainability? 🌿 Data ingestion has long been a pain point for organisations to measure and reduce emissions in a science-based method. At Generate Zero, we leverage generative AI in our decarbonisation platform for secure file data extraction, classification, and categorisation, massively improving accuracy, set-up time, and efficiency of data ingestion into the platform. This allows organisations to seamlessly automate monthly reporting of emissions, form a data-driven foundation to use our unique Reduction Module to create reduction targets, and accelerate initiatives of reduction plans within the Generate Zero platform. Contact us to find out how we can help you too to accelerate decarbonisation and deliver net zero. #ai #data #carbonemissions #sustainability #decarbonisation #generativeAI
