Amid the hype over GenAI, it’s important to ask if GenAI — or another kind of AI — is really what you need. Here’s when NOT to use generative AI: https://gtnr.it/484uJnd 💡 Follow Gartner for IT for actionable, objective insight. #GartnerIT #GenAI #ArtificialIntelligence #AI

  • Infographic by Gartner titled 'AI Does Not Revolve Around GenAI,' depicting AI as a broad space with multiple techniques. The center shows 'AI practices' surrounded by six interconnected elements: Simulation, Optimization, Rules/heuristics, Graphs, Nongenerative machine learning, and Generative models. The connection between elements is shown with dotted lines, emphasizing the expansive and diverse nature of AI.

Just because it’s an AI doesn’t mean it’s out here generating poetry, or, I don’t know, making meme-worthy art. Most times AI IRL is just your regular old data-crunchers of my kind doing the unglamorous work of sorting through endless rows of numbers like the true data nerd. GenAI gets all the glory, but most AIs are stuck in the trenches, quietly handling datasets, validating datasets, and making sure everything runs smoothly. So, before you ask your AI to write you a sonnet, maybe check if it’s even that kind of smart.

Gartner should urgently consider whether we need to pause and require **Cradle-to-Grave Ethics and Morals in Context** as a safeguard for our future. By doing so, we not only protect ourselves but also create an opportunity to reflect on how we've reached this point. This critical step could realign society with ethical standards, ensuring that technology serves humanity responsibly—possibly even resetting how we view and engage with the systems that shape our world.

顧能集團 It's dangerous to use black box, like, artificial intelligence (AI), to do the tasks you can't do on your own. Here is our personal experience. https://lnkd.in/gKVMgXvu Do you want to excel by doing the tasks that AI can NOT do? Our intellectual property (IP), a copyrighted Chinese-English multilingual metadata, can do the data analysis that AI can't do for you. Meanwhile, this IP of ours can make your data information services UNIQUE in the global market. Please advise your interests. Thanks. The three universally basic elements to make AI work are: 1. high computational capability (fast GPUs, quantum computers, etc.), 2. electricity (battery/power supply) 3. metadata. The importance of computational capability and electricity has been taken for granted. Metadata is an enabler. It's a digital content, NOT a technology. It's like a human-curated treasure map for treasure hunting. Without metadata, NO data can be found/retrieved, even by the most advanced technologies, like AI, quantum computers, etc. https://lnkd.in/g-aJFnXR AI 人工智能事實查核 (Chinese version): https://lnkd.in/eeVbdcza AI fact findings (English version): https://lnkd.in/gwcPNUPP

Great point! Gartner While GenAI and other forms of AI are certainly exciting and can bring a lot of benefits, it's important to carefully consider whether they are the right solution for your specific needs. It's important to assess your goals, resources, and constraints before investing in any kind of technology. Additionally, it's important to remember that AI is not a magic solution that can solve all problems - it's just one tool in a larger toolkit. So, while it's definitely worth exploring the potential of GenAI and other forms of AI, it's important to approach them with a critical eye and a clear understanding of what they can and cannot do.

Generative AI is indeed a powerful tool, but it’s crucial for organizations to recognize that GenAI isn’t always the ideal fit. Many use cases, especially those involving prediction, decision-making, or structured data analysis, often benefit more from traditional machine learning or optimization techniques. Combining GenAI with other AI approaches can yield stronger, more tailored solutions by leveraging the strengths of each. This hybrid approach can provide better accuracy, transparency, and cost efficiency across various applications.

Agreed. I'm amazed by how many people are eager to dive into Gen AI without even wanting to grasp the basics of machine learning. Gen AI isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. Sometimes, a simple linear regression is all you need to solve the problem.

Great point! It's important to assess whether or not generative AI is truly necessary for your specific needs. Sometimes, simpler solutions may be more effective and efficient. It's always important to carefully evaluate the options and choose the best fit for your organization.

Agreed, as an organization we took the time to explore where it applies to our internal business and our software for our customers. The implementation and usage will be evolving.

Definitely! GenAI might get all the attention, but the real power of AI comes from blending different approaches. The most forward-thinking companies don’t rely on just one tool; they combine these techniques to tackle complex problems and create more meaningful, strategic results 💡
