We all have a preferred way of communicating and we can use different forms and phrases based on our upbringing, location and age. Recently, I have taken additional time to understand the ways in which people want to be communicated with. Where does the chair emoji come in? Well, I was communicating with a person much younger than myself. In this communication they replied to me with a chair emoji and I was at a loss. Being too embarrassed to ask, I googled 'what does the chair emoji mean?' and found out it means 'LOL' or 'haha'. In that moment I realised I needed to learn the ways in which those younger than me communicate (and learn the new slang). Millennials hate the phone (sorry guys), boomers prefer the phone, so how does Gen Z and Alpha like to be communicated with? Emails, face to face, digital channels and immediate communication. I owe the chair emoji my appreciation, it reminded me to step back and look at the best ways to communicate with my clients and candidates regardless of their age. Adjusting your communication style is easy when you know what they respond to the best. Courtney Jarrett can corroborate my chair emoji story as fact! #Communication #AlwaysLearning #Recruitment #BeaumontPeople #Recruitment #TemporaryRecruitment #MelbourneRecruitment #Millennials
I thought it was their way of saying cheers. In the same way they say “bone apple teeth” instead of bon appetite” 🤷♀️ 😂
The last thing that came to my mind when I saw this chair is "LOL haha. Would have never guessed!
I still think it should mean 'I'm comfortable with that'. 🤷🏼♀️
I would also been at a loss if someone would have sent me the chair emoji! You learn something new every day!

5moAs I was reading this, I asked my 16-year-old, "What does the chair emoji mean?". His response was, "I don't know". I told him, and he replied, "Maybe on Facebook" because that's where he assumed I was looking. I spend more time than I should asking him to translate things. He said to me today, "I cannot be your representative for all things teenager and social media Mum".
