Just over a year ago, the devastating fires in Maui left Lahaina in ruins, displacing countless families and individuals. Recognizing the urgent need for support, Taskrabbit partnered with IKEA and TY Management to help assemble furniture for 30 Temporary Housing Units in Kapula Village. Taskrabbit for Good, Taskrabbit's social impact program, sponsored 502 Tasker hours to help.
This effort was more than just assembling furniture—it was about providing comfort, stability, and hope to those who lost everything. Working with various trades and community partners, we aimed to create spaces that represented the first step towards rebuilding lives and restoring a sense of normalcy.
Here’s to many more projects that combine our skills, resources, and hearts to support communities in their time of need. #MauiStrong#TaskrabbitForGood
This goes way beyond assembling furniture—it's about rebuilding lives and restoring a sense of normalcy for the community. Cheers to Taskrabbit, IKEA, TY Management, and all involved in this meaningful project. #MauiStrong
Creating a Healthier Future for Sigulu Island—One Stove at a Time 🌱
Our recent workshop on Sigulu Island wasn’t just about introducing the Ojulu Smokeless Stove—it was about empowering the community to lead the change. We demonstrated the stove to 20 enthusiastic participants, most of whom have used traditional stoves all their lives. The excitement was palpable as they saw the stove’s efficiency and safety in action.
One participant, a female small business owner who sells chapati (flatbreads), immediately saw the potential. She expressed that this stove would make her business exponentially more efficient, safer and cleaner, allowing her to produce more chapatis in less time while reducing smoke exposure.
But it didn’t stop there—many participants are now eager to help assemble and distribute these stoves in their own villages. This grassroots involvement is how we’ll create lasting impact.

"The whole idea is that you can come home from work and then experience community right away."
At this week’s Rotary Club meeting, James Khan from ObiCai Restaurant Management shared his exciting vision for the The Village of Arneo, a new 200-acre housing development in Fort Wayne. This project aims to go beyond the traditional neighborhood by fostering a sense of community through thoughtful design and amenities that encourage connection and activity.
What sets Village of Arneo apart? It’s not just another housing development. With oversized roads, walking trails, golf cart paths, and a mix of commercial and residential spaces, the focus is on creating a vibrant, walkable community where people can enjoy restaurants, parks, and even entertainment venues—all within steps of their homes.
Why is this important? In a world where technology often disconnects us, Village of Arneo is designed to bring people back together. It offers a space where neighbors can meet, families can thrive, and everyone can enjoy the simple pleasures of community life.
This project isn’t just about housing—it’s about reshaping the way we live and connect with one another. Looking forward to seeing this vision come to life!

Janakiram Layout, a settlement in #Bengaluru, has long struggled with inadequate housing and water supply. The women of Janakiram Layout endured significant hardships due to poor water quality and an unreliable supply, forcing them to fetch water from distant locations. This not only affected their health but also consumed a considerable amount of their time. With the support of Mahila Housing Trust the Community Action Group (CAG) prioritised addressing and resolving this critical issue.
Through continuous sensitization, awareness programs, and capacity-building training, MHT empowered the CAG.
CAG members proactively engaged with local government authorities to propose installing a borewell as a solution. Their persistent advocacy led to approval and installation of a borewell by BWSSB, providing reliable water directly to the community.
These efforts at Janakiram Layout isn't just about water—it's about community resilience, collaboration, and the ongoing journey towards improved living conditions. #WaterForAll#CommunityEfforts#WaterScarcity#BengaluruWaterCrisis
https://lnkd.in/eAqqaC5K#ThiruvanmiyurMadaStreet, in #Chennai, India is famous for its Chola-Era Marundeeshwar Temple which translates to "God of Health and Medicine", and has been a place of curative worship for people with diseases. This is one of the famous Trinity Sea Shore temples of Thondai Mandalam, and the East Coast Road that stretches along the temple once served as a key trade route called 'Vadagaperuvazhi' during the Chola era.
Another interesting story is that Thiruvanmiyur gets its name from 'Thiru Valmiki -oor' , and is believed to be one of the places where Valmiki resided. There is a shrine for Valmiki in the middle of the ECR highway that references this significance.
Let's jump to the present day:
The Mada streets are narrow lanes around a temple tank that still serves as a processional path for the temple cart festival. There is no signage or information for visitors to learn about these #placestories. While inside the temple, crores are spent for maintenance the surrounding areas look like they belong to a different planet.
The ablution tank used to be where worshippers once took a dip believed to rid them of illnesses, today it is locked and surrounded by parking and overflowing trash. Thiurvanmiyur is slowly drowning in smoke, traffic and garbage.
Temple precincts like these with decaying infrastructure are not serving their residents, businesses, or pilgrims and haven't been able to keep up with time.
This neighbourhood is now a residential hub and home to bustling markets, fishing communities, quiet beaches, cultural hubs like Kalakshetra Foundation, and handicrafts school. We want visitors/residents to feel welcome, proud, and comfortable walking, shopping, living, praying, and cycling in this unique neighbourhood.
Together with Design Co: Lab, and with the support of a local community group, I initiated this campaign in my neighbourhood to revive these streets as a "#HeritagePrecinct", introduce parking fees that will in turn fund the maintenance, introduce informative signages, initiate debris removal and provide shaded resting and convivial interactions spaces around the temple pond.
Some of our wins include - Gaining support from the local MLA who has written a letter to the Commissioner to initiate an engagement event in the proposed corners, conducting user audits, as well as meetings with Temple Truamartstees who are willing to support this in their upcoming donor call's.
We need more support and funding to initiate these steps and pilot activation, so our design team can get to work in Chennai! If interested, do connect with us.

The students’ initiative to give back to their province is commendable. It would be beneficial if the government could support the involvement of more students from various institutions in similar activities during school holidays. One key area where students can also contribute is literacy awareness, especially considering that the literacy rate in Papua New Guinea is estimated to be between 60-70%.
Despite being in the 21st century, many of our people still lack basic knowledge. For instance, there are videos circulating of parents giving alcohol to their toddlers. Who in their right mind would do that? Issues like table marketing in the city center, buai stains, and unnecessary fighting are prevalent. What is the root cause of these problems?
The root cause of many issues we face is a lack of knowledge. Problems ranging from family planning to personal and family healthcare can be addressed through awareness.
Students are the best candidates to effectively carry out awareness campaigns and make a significant impact across communities. All institutions in PNG have regional and denominational student groups. I am confident that students would be eager to participate in these groups if given the opportunity, as it allows them to give back to their communities

Clean up Goroka and Kainantu Township this Christmas:
Eastern Highlands students studying at Divine Word University will carry out major clean-up drive for Goroka and Kainantu township this upcoming Christmas holidays. This initiative is part of our commitment to giving back to our home province and supporting the health, environment and general well-being of our towns.
We see this as an opportunity to unite and contribute to the beauty and cleanliness of our towns. Our group aims to carry out a comprehensive clean-up, focusing on public spaces, markets and roadside areas that have accumulated waste.
Let us work together to keep our towns free from rubbish.

Transforming a single drop into hope for the Sutarkond village.
In the relentless struggle against water scarcity, the villagers faced constant challenges and failed to secure any assistance. With each passing day, villagers, especially the women, had to trek long distances to fetch water, draining their energy and resources. The constant repairs of the makeshift water system further burdened them, leaving them trapped in a cycle of despair.
Hikal's firm dedication to addressing issues raised by the community brought a beacon of hope amidst this adversity. Partnering with IAHV, we embarked on a mission to build a 20,000-liter RCC tank, bringing much-needed relief to the village. With access to clean water, the women of Sutarkond underwent a remarkable transformation. No longer burdened by the constant struggle for water, they found newfound freedom and opportunities. Some seized employment opportunities as house helpers, while others initiated successful tiffin services from their homes. Their newfound independence and entrepreneurial spirit are a testament to the transformative power of access to clean water.
On World Water Day, let us celebrate this triumph of the human spirit and recognize the profound impact of such initiatives on people's lives. Together, let us continue to be the catalysts for change, empowering communities and shaping a brighter future for all.

I’ve been thinking about how Māoritanga, the Māori way of life and values, connects beautifully with Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. This connection is one reason I’m so passionate about supporting whānau to create papakāinga.
Kāinga (Home) - Physiological Needs: Just as Maslow identifies basic needs like food, water, warmth, rest, and shelter, Māoritanga places a strong emphasis on kāinga. Ensuring whānau have a safe, warm place to live is foundational in both perspectives.
Manaakitanga (Hospitality, Care, and Respect) - Safety Needs: Maslow talks about the need for safety and security. In Māoritanga, manaakitanga reflects the importance of creating a secure environment where everyone is cared for and respected, ensuring the community’s well-being.
Whanaungatanga (Relationships and Kinship) - Love and Belongingness: Maslow highlights the importance of relationships and a sense of belonging. Whanaungatanga in Māoritanga emphasises the strength of connections and kinship, fostering deep relationships and a strong sense of community.
Mana (Prestige, Authority) and Utu (Reciprocity) - Esteem Needs: For Maslow, recognition and respect are crucial. In Māoritanga, mana and utu are key concepts. Helping whānau create papakāinga enhances their mana, providing a sense of pride and respect within the community, much like Maslow’s esteem needs.
Whakapapa (Genealogy) and Wairua (Spirituality) - Self-Actualisation: Maslow’s highest level is about realising personal potential. Māoritanga focuses on whakapapa and wairua, guiding individuals to understand their place in the world and fulfill their potential within the context of their ancestry and community.
Supporting whānau in building papakāinga addresses every level of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs while deeply resonating with the principles of Māoritanga. It’s about ensuring families not only meet their basic needs but also thrive culturally, spiritually, and socially.
What do you think about the connection between Māoritanga and Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs?

We are Sakh’Indoda, a diverse, multi-racial group of men united to help local Hout Bay men take control of their lives and become leaders and role models in their communities. We believe the men of Hout Bay must work together to support one another, foster healthy masculinity, create safe communities, and nurture economic inclusion by participating in circles and establishing mentor partnerships.
Our approach is grounded in dialogue, community embeddedness, respect for diversity, and taking responsibility for oneself. We're making a significant impact in Hout Bay and believe our tested methods can be scaled up to assist other South African communities facing similar challenges.
