This futuristic #city, envisioned as a 170-kilometer-long, 500-meter-tall urban #development, is reportedly using a staggering 20% of the world’s available steel. The #project, which serves as a cornerstone of #SaudiArabia’s Vision 2030, aims to create a #sustainable, car-free city powered entirely by #renewableenergy. While this #goal is commendable, the massive steel requirement raises concerns about environmental impact and potential #resource constraints. In order to support The Line, Saudi #authorities have approved a SAR 700-million (US$190-million) #concreteplant that will produce up to 20,000 cubic meters (about 700,000 cubic ft) of #concrete daily, primarily for this project and other Neom #initiatives. The consortium, which includes FCC Construcción, #China State Construction Engineering Corporation, and Shibh Al Jazira Contracting Company, reports that 25% of the 8.7-km #tunnel has been completed. This tunnel forms a critical part of 'The #Spine'—an #infrastructure corridor designed to support high-speed and freight rail services that connect different sectors of NEOM, including the innovative regions of #TheLine and the #Oxagon area. #Gamuda, in a JV with #Ferrovial Construction (GFJV), has signed an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) agreement with #AlintaEnergy for the multi-billion-dollar Oven Mountain Pumped Hydro Storage project. The ECI will take approximately six months to progress the project #design and #constructability using a world-class team of experts drawing on Gamuda’s extensive #tunnelling and #civilengineering expertise coupled with Ferrovial’s proven capability in delivering #hydro and #dam projects. In Oman, Galfar Engineering and Contracting Company was awarded a $91 Mn contract for the Expansion of the Raysut Water Reclamation Plants – Phase III (Stage 1) by Nama Dhofar Services Company in the Dhofar governorate. The Oman government announced its plan to develop an additional LNG train with a capacity of 3.8 million TPY at Qalhat Industrial Complex in South Sharqiyah Governorate. The government is now progressing with finalising the FEED study for this new LNG train project. Abu Dhabi’s clean energy company Masdar has signed an agreement with France’s TotalEnergies to explore a sustainable aviation fuel project using methanol produced from green hydrogen. The agreement follows a "successful test flight" conducted by the two companies during the Cop28 climate conference in December. In Saudi Arabia, a joint venture of Hassan Allam Construction Saudi, El Seif Engineering Contracting, and China Harbour Engineering Arabia was awarded a major contract by the Port of NEOM, located in Oxagon. The scope of the project includes an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for developing Port of NEOM’s Container Terminal 1 and the Marine Services Area (MSA), covering the design and construction of all MSA and T1 buildings, as well as the infrastructure and entrance zone to the new terminal, set to open in 2025. ROSHN Group announced the development of an iconic 45,000-seat stadium spanning over 450,000 square meters in Southwest Riyadh. The landmark mixed-use project will encompass a wide range of shops, restaurants, and hospitality venues, and at its heart lies the main sports and event floor. ROSHN Group announced a collaboration with Aramco to build Aramco Stadium, a 47,000-seat stadium in Khobar. The stadium is expected to be completed and operational by 2026 and will host both national and international events, including the 2027 AFC Asian Cup. In UAE, Emirates Water and Electricity Company announced that it has received Bidder Proposals from four firms for the development of the Saadiyat Island Reverse Osmosis (RO) Independent Water Project (IWP). Proposals have been received from Acciona Agua, Engie, GS Inima Environmental, and a consortium comprised of FCC Aqualia and Orascom Construction Industries. The Saadiyat Island desalination project will desalinate approximately 60 million imperial gallons per day of seawater. In Egypt, New Jersey Developments announced plans for a new US$1.02 bn residential project on Egypt’s North Coast, named Jamila. The project, located 263 km from Cairo, will span 130 feddans and offer a range of residential units, including chalets, duplexes, hotel apartments, studios, townhouses, and villas. The development will also include a five-star hotel managed by Marriott International, a shopping mall with international brands, and a variety of restaurants, cafes, and shops.
