For more than three years, Tamarack’s Community Climate Transitions (CCT) network has been supporting community-led climate action that builds more just and equitable futures. Through our work with municipalities, community organizations, resident-led groups, and others forming cross-sector coalitions, we have learned a lot about what it takes to address the climate crisis in a collaborative way that ensures no one is left behind. We’re excited to launch 10: A Guide for Advancing Climate Equity Through Place-Based Collaboration, which brings together two principles of CCT’s work with 70+ members since 2021: climate action is incomplete without addressing the inequities of the climate crisis in our communities, and place-based partnerships are a natural fit for advancing climate equity. The guide includes: ❓Questions to reflect upon to assess how ready you are to advance climate equity through place-based collaboration in your community 💭 Ideas for how to take local climate action in an equitable, collaborative way 🌇 Stories of communities across Turtle Island that serve as inspiration for your work and much more. You can access the guide in English here: https://hubs.li/Q02KmnKz0 and in French here: https://hubs.li/Q02Km9kj0 #climateequity #climatetransition #climateaction

Through the PAR toolkit, the DOT Climate Champions were able to empower communities to create grassroots climate change solutions through a five-stage process. ENGAGE: Climate Champions promoted local actions and connected with stakeholders. DECIDE : They worked with community members to determine specific actions and solutions. PLAN: Involved developing detailed plans for climate initiatives, eco-businesses, and engagement, supported by training and coaching. ACT: These plans were implemented, with communities pursuing green jobs and leading eco-businesses. ASSES: This involved continuous evaluation of the efforts, ensuring training effectiveness, digital skills application, and overall outcomes, with adjustments as needed. It is with heavy hearts that we hit ‘start’ on NC Climate Week this morning, as communities in Western NC & beyond are left without power, clean water, and communication, and entire towns, homes, and businesses have washed away. As we see climate fueled storms like Helene impacting NC so severely, the message that climate action is needed now could not be clearer. We all are holding a piece of the puzzle to mitigate the worst impacts of climate change. Some pieces are bigger than others. Government and corporate sectors hold the biggest pieces. But the picture of a healthy and sustainable future requires all the pieces, including those held by individuals and small business. NC Climate Week is a place to move forward, individually and collectively, by accelerating the use of climate solutions that are already known. There are tools and resources ready to use. If you’d like to join us this week to learn the most up to date information on how you can take action as an individual or business, we are focusing on the highest impact lowest barrier actions through the virtual sessions being held every day this week. Forum and B Lab U.S. & Canada recently co-published the Business Guide to Advancing Climate Justice, a guide designed for businesses that are working to address the climate crisis by using equity-centered solutions. 💡 In the guide, we asked community members what climate justice means to them and about their experiences with business, to understand where there has been harm through action or inaction and to identify opportunities for future action. 📩 Download the Business Guide to Advancing Climate Justice to hear more wisdom from frontline community efforts and practical guidance for the private sector to take concrete climate justice action in partnership with communities. https://lnkd.in/gmdc6pdt #ClimateJustice #Climate #Business #Guide #Download

The urgency to address climate crisis, carbon emissions, and sustainable environmental practices has never been greater. It's a wake-up call for us to invest in climate resilience, realize a robust transition to a global green economy and consolidate strategies for financing it; while enhancing community preparedness. How can we, as a community of professionals, innovators, and policymakers, work together to accelerate mitigation of the growing crisis of climate change? The graph clearly shows a significant rise in emissions for 2024 (red line) compared to the average from 2003-2023 (grey line). Alberta, British Columbia, and the Northwest Territories are some of the regions contributing to these staggering numbers. #ClimateChange #WildfireSeason #greentransition #Sustainability #ClimateAction #Canada #EnvironmentalImpact

Check out this article below written by my colleague, Megan Bomba, on Catona Climate's Community Benefits Principles. Local communities are integral stakeholders in our carbon projects and so we developed Principles by which we can deliver maximum impact for and by partnering WITH communities.
🌿 🥕 💰 Community benefits aren’t just a “nice-to-have” — they’re a critical component of any carbon project’s success. Without favorable long-term social outcomes, any climate change mitigation achieved likely won’t be sustainable. That’s why making a positive impact on local communities is one of the three core impact pillars that guide all our work. 🫱🏼🫲🏾 👇 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gjdBk_gJ

💛 🙌 💛 Love these kinds of stories, and moreover, story collections like these! Climate change is huge and it's so easy to feel small and alone trying to face it, or like your drops in the bucket aren't enough. But we are not alone, and collections spotlighting a diversity of grassroots and community stories of change remind us of that. On a grand scale, stories are the foundation of transformative change because they help us, collectively, imagine what a just, healthy, liberated world can look like. But just as importantly, they keep us in community as we strive to make this vision a reality. Stories are like the "extracellular matrix" of society -- they fortify us and help us imagine another world and connect with others fighting for it. And together we push forward.
Communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis have been already creating solutions that are effective, long-lasting and equitable. That is why we are thrilled to announce the launch of our Climate Justice Solutions Storybank. It serves as a resource, highlighting how individuals and groups are mobilizing, driving change, and achieving transformative outcomes. It also showcases inspiring examples of how communities are actively creating the world we want to build – a world where climate justice is achieved through community-led solutions. We know that people have the power to create change, and we hope that each of these stories sparks the imagination and collaboration needed to bring climate justice solutions to life everywhere.
