🚨 ATTENTION ARTISTS 🚨 🎸 An Important Learning Moment 🎷 An interesting discussion on Podcast And Chill With MacG on Publishing and Master Rights. Just to clear up a few things which all artists need to understand: 🎶 There are two copyrights in a song:- ** The Copyright in The Composition, and ** The Copyright in The Recording (also known as the Master) 🎷 The Copyright in The Composition 🎷 🎶 This copyright is owned by the songwriter(s) or the composer(s). This is anyone who contributed in the creation of the song either by creating lyrics or creating the melody and harmony, this includes what is known today as "the beat". Owners of this copyright can sell their rights (e.g. a beat maker can sell their beats thereby transferring ownership to the buyer). 🎶 The administrative process of collecting The Copyright in The Composition royalties and distribution to the owners is known in the industry as Publishing. The copyrights are also referred to as "Publishing Rights" in the industry. 🎤 The Copyright in The Recording🎤 🎶 This copyright is owned by whoever used their resources (studio, equipment, etc.) or funded the creation process of the recording also known in the industry as the Master. Usually this would be the Record Label or the Producer, or the Recording Artist. 🎶 NOTE! This copyright is limited to the master file that was created meaning if the song is recorded by another entity then they own the copyrights to that master they created. 🎶 SO WHO REALLY OWNS THE SONG? 🎶 🎷 Answer - The songwriter(s)/composer(s) as they also hold the Ethical Rights which allows them to say who can or cannot record the song. Usage rights sections of contracts are usually where we are doing the most work for agreements between creators and brands. They often don’t represent the negotiated terms between the parties on the first draft… and some are usually WAY OFF… #counselingcreators #creatortips #influencermarketing

Insightful Content Sir ! Mahela Liyanage Navigating the Melody of Rights: Intellectual Property in the Music Industry of the 21st Century In an era where digital platforms have revolutionized the way we consume music, the importance of protecting the rights of those who create it has never been more crucial. Composers, singers, and lyricists are the backbone of the music industry, crafting the soundtracks of our lives with their creativity and passion. As we stride further into the 21st Century, the interplay between technology and intellectual property rights continues to evolve. The advent of streaming services, social media, and digital downloads has expanded the reach of music, but it has also raised complex questions about copyright and fair use. For composers, singers, and lyricists, understanding and enforcing intellectual property rights is key to ensuring that their work is not only recognized but also rewarded. Copyright laws grant them exclusive rights to their creations, allowing them to benefit from their work through licensing deals, royalties, and other forms of revenue. However, the path to safeguarding these rights is fraught with challenges. Piracy, unauthorized sampling, and the misuse of music on various platforms threaten the livelihood of music creators. It is imperative for industry stakeholders to collaborate on robust legal frameworks that adapt to the digital landscape and protect the rights of artists worldwide. As we celebrate the innovation that technology brings to the music industry, let’s also champion the rights of the artists who inspire and entertain us. After all, music is not just an art form—it’s the intellectual property of those who dare to dream in melody and verse. #IntellectualProperty #MusicIndustry

Who Are You Voting For? . No, not in the election—I'm talking about the daily decisions that shape who we become. , As James Clear writes in Atomic Habits, each choice we make is like casting a vote for the person we want to be. , When our actions align with our higher self, we reinforce the identity we aspire to. , On the flip side, actions that stray from our goals are votes against our best self. , Lately, I've had to remind myself of this. There are days when staying in bed is tempting, workouts seem too tough, or client work feels overwhelming. , But I've learned to choose myself. Perfection isn't the goal; it's about consistently voting for the best version of ourselves. Remember, you don't need all the votes to win—just a majority or a strong plurality. , Vote for your highest, strongest, most remarkable self every day. Because when that person wins, we all win. 🌟 #AtomicHabits #DailyDecisions #VoteForYourself #PersonalGrowth #ChooseYourself #JamesClear #ForTheCulture #IAmWhatATrademarkAttorneyLooksLike #Trademarks #Copyrights #LicensesForSocialImpact #LetsPlayBig #SocialImpact #Blessed ————— If you're interested in scaling your brand through trademark, copyright, or licensing, let's work together: https://lnkd.in/gxq-Hf9t ————— To Join Our Free Founders Community for Social Impact, Click Here: https://fftc.substack.com
