In 2023, the average ECL charge/profit experienced a -3% change compared to YE 2022. The average coverage ratio dropped from 1.40% to 1.36%, mainly due to a substantial decrease for Stage 3 instruments. Irish banks included in the analysis showed a low to average share of ECL charge in operating profit/loss, both exhibiting 6% releases of the ECL allowances. Despite these releases, Irish banks’ coverage ratios remain higher than the average, with one Irish bank showing the highest coverage ratio for Stage 2 at 8.3%. Overall, all participating banks anticipate optimistic GDP growth in the coming years, close to the ECB projections and surpassing the BoE projections. Nicolas Mellot, Senior Manager at Forvis Mazars, presents the data sample and methodology used in the study's key findings. #ForvisMazars #EuropeanBanking Michal Cotelnic Read more here:
