📢 Exciting Opportunity in XR Research! 📢 I am thrilled to announce a special session titled "From Offline Processing to Online Bio-Adaptivity in XR Environments" a collaborative effort between LabLeni (where I am currently doing my doctoral visiting) and AVRLab (University of Salento). This session will be part of the @XRSalento2024 conference. Abstract: Adaptability in Extended Reality (XR) environments is becoming increasingly essential to enhance user experience, overcome interactivity limitations, and provide high levels of personalization. Traditionally, environment adaptation occurred offline, but we are now shifting towards physiologically adaptive systems that use biocybernetic closed loops. By measuring physiological signals (ECG, EEG, EDA, fNIRS), we can generate real-time feedback, allowing the system to respond dynamically to users' physiological states. This session will focus on research, design, and the study of adaptive XR environments, with an emphasis on applied benefits across various fields such as clinical therapy personalization, rehabilitation progress monitoring, educational improvement, adaptive gamification in arts and entertainment, and Industry 4.0 adaptable maintenance services. ⏳ Submission Deadline: End of May ⏳ We highly encourage the submission of your contributions to be part of this groundbreaking session. Don't miss out on the chance to be at the forefront of XR innovation! Feel free to contact me for more information or visit our website for submission guidelines. #XRSalento2024 #XREnvironments #BioAdaptivity #LabLeni #AVRLab #Research #Innovation #XR #PhysiologicalAdaptation #CallForPapers Lucio De Paolis Javier Marín Eleonora Minissi Giulia Pellegrino LabLENI Dipartimento di Ingegneria dell'Innovazione UniSalento

Imagine putting on VR goggles and meeting your doctor in a virtual office, or using AR (Augmented Reality) to see how a new medical device would look in your home. That is the kind of thing the healthcare metaverse enables. So, what does the healthcare metaverse mean? It is a virtual space where advanced technologies like augmented and virtual reality transform patient care. A Boston Consulting Group (BCG) survey reveals that 70%+ of global healthcare leaders are already on board. Since 2017, startups have secured a whopping $2.3 billion in funding, tripling since 2020! Healthcare is set to dominate 10-15% of the metaverse market. But here is the kicker: while many are dabbling, only 20% have a solid strategy. It is an excellent opportunity for forward-thinking players to lead this digital health transformation. Major healthcare providers like Johns Hopkins Medicine and the Mayo Clinic are leveraging augmented reality to enhance surgical procedures, such as spine surgeries and catheter placements. Similarly, Novartis utilizes virtual reality to create 3D visualizations of therapeutic targets and molecular structures when designing new drugs. Additionally, companies like Medtronic are adopting AR to cut training costs compared to traditional methods. These big players are embracing metaverse technologies to improve patient care, streamline training, and enhance surgical precision across the healthcare sector. The metaverse presents immense potential for the healthcare industry, but adoption will require significant investment in talent, technology, and partnerships. This includes recruiting skilled professionals like software engineers and AR/VR experts. By taking no-regret steps such as experiencing the metaverse, forming a crew, collecting use cases, fostering partnerships, and staying informed about the trends, organizations can begin to realize the potential of this transformative technology. #VirtualReality #DigitalHealth #HealthcareInnovation #FutureOfHealthcare #HealthTech

#ATANexus2024 Day 1️⃣: I Kicked things off with a deep dive into XR. Here's what I learned: 🌱 Healthcare XR is still a nascent industry. This means lots of green space for development and growth! Bob Fine 👫 Successful technology adoption and implementation requires a motivated team, and technology will only replace the providers who don't learn how to use it. Giselle Ricur 🏃🏻♀️➡️ VR is helping athletes improve their skills, mitigate risk of injury, and recover better faster. Athletes playing at the top of their sport are literally decades ahead of their time. Habib Noorbhai, PhD 🏅The VA has a history of being a first-mover when it comes to adopting impactful healthcare technology like implantable cardiac devices and nicotine patches. Today, they've deployed XR in over 40 locations around the US - a good sign for the future of healthcare XR. Jonathan Tang, CTRS 🧠 The human brain can treat VR experiences as real memories. The Mayo Clinic uses this to deploy full-scale surgical trainings and improve DEI. Thomas (Thom) Belda ⏱️ 3.5 hours is a long time, but the opportunity in this space is enough for people to stick around even if you're the last one to take the stage! Embracing the Future: Technology, AI, and the Evolution of Rehabilitation in Physical Therapy At ABI Promedical, we’re passionate about the future of healthcare, particularly in the realm of rehabilitation and physical therapy. As technology advances at an unprecedented pace, we see incredible opportunities to enhance patient care, streamline processes, and improve outcomes. Let’s explore how technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), is transforming the landscape of rehabilitation. The Role of Technology in Physical Therapy Traditionally, physical therapy has relied on manual techniques and patient-therapist interactions. While these methods remain vital, the integration of technology is revolutionizing how therapies are delivered. Here are some key advancements: Telehealth Solutions: Remote consultations have become a staple, allowing patients to receive guidance and therapy from the comfort of their homes. This flexibility is particularly beneficial for those in rural areas or with mobility challenges. Wearable Devices: Smart wearables, such as fitness trackers and smart textiles, provide real-time data on a patient’s movements and activity levels. This information helps therapists customize rehabilitation plans and monitor progress more effectively. Virtual Reality (VR): VR technology immerses patients in simulated environments, making exercises more engaging and motivating. For example, patients recovering from injuries can practice movements in a safe and controlled virtual setting. The Power of Artificial Intelligence AI is at the forefront of technological innovation in physical therapy. Here’s how it’s shaping the future of rehabilitation: Personalized Treatment Plans: AI algorithms analyze patient data to create tailored rehabilitation programs. By considering individual progress and responses, these systems can adapt therapies to optimize outcomes. Predictive Analytics: AI can predict potential setbacks in recovery by analyzing patterns in patient data. This allows therapists to intervene proactively, potentially preventing complications and enhancing recovery speed. Robotics in Rehabilitation: Robotic-assisted therapy systems are becoming increasingly sophisticated, providing support and resistance to aid patients in their rehabilitation exercises. This technology helps improve strength, coordination, and overall functional mobility. Enhancing Patient Engagement Engagement is crucial for successful rehabilitation. Technology plays a vital role in keeping patients motivated and involved in their recovery journey. Mobile apps that provide exercise reminders, progress tracking, and educational resources empower patients to take charge of their rehabilitation. #PhysicalTherapy #Rehabilitation #HealthcareInnovation #AIinHealthcare #Telehealth #WearableTechnology #VirtualReality #PatientEngagement #FutureOfRehabilitation #ABIProMedical #HealthTech #SmartTherapies #RehabTech #PersonalizedCare #RoboticsInRehab
