Book Review: "Hands-On Unity Game Development" by Packt https://lnkd.in/ghQEenCG A while ago I got my hands on "Hands-On Unity Game Development", written by Juan Gabriel Gomila Salas and Nicolas Borromeo, and published by Packt, and I must say, it's an absolute gold mine for anyone looking to dive into game development using #Unity. I can only wish I had gotten to reading it sooner ! :) Written by two fellow Unity Certified Instructors, this beast is packed with all the essentials and more that you'll need to start building games right away. The authors have done a fantastic job of providing a structured overview that's both digestible and practical. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced developer, you'll find the content very well-organized and easy to follow. Content wise, the book covers everything any self-respecting (dare I say that out loud ?:)) Unity developer should know. It starts with the basics of scene management, hierarchy structuring, working with prefabs and external assets. From there, it delves into terrain tools, scripting basics, and implementing game loops. Next up, the authors guide you through adding AI to your game units, polishing your game with visual effects and audio, post-processing and creating ambient soundscapes, integrating user interfaces and animations and cutscenes using Unity's Animator, Cinemachine, and Timeline tools. On top of that the book doesn't shy away from covering more advanced topics such as performance profiling, AR/VR and Unity's new Data-Oriented Technology Stack (DOTS). These sections offer a great introduction for those looking to expand their skills and explore these important but often overlooked frontiers in Unity game development. So to all my students, colleagues, and fellow Unity aficionados: it's clear that a lot of thought and expertise went into crafting this guide and with the summer holiday coming up this book provides an excellent opportunity to get started with OR brush up on your Unity skills!
