How to scale your venue and run it on fewer than 10hrs / week Venue overwhelm is the biggest profit killer in the industry. I've seen it in almost every venue we've worked with. The owner: - Is excited - Wants to grow - Hopes to scale their venue into a well-oiled machine So when customers come, they begin jumping at every request, and the calendar starts filling up. Starting at a mostly empty off-season the owner starts panicking and doing what everyone else does - offering more services. - Decor rentals - Event planning - Photography - Catering The works. And smack dab in the middle of all those services? You guessed it! The owner. So when problems come up - they pick their poison and hire another body OR do it themselves...which takes more time and profit from them and leads to a spiral of being overwhelmed and having to hire more bodies to solve more problems. The end result: Venue owners working 60+ hours / week and not having time to track their data, analyze results, take breaks, weekends, or holidays because the venue can't run without them...😭 😭 The most profitable successful venue owners I've worked with all do this 1 thing: They guard their time - They don't allow themselves to be the solution to the venue's problems - They create systems to handle problems - They lean on experts to guide them - They keep offerings simple - They keep overhead lean Which allows them to engineer low costs, high profits, free schedules, and full calendars. 3 Mistakes I See Event Organizers Make: When it comes to events, I may have seen it all. Here are three mistakes that can make or break your attendee's experience: 𝟏. Focusing on the Food Instead of Fun Yes, food is important. But it’s not the star of the show. (Your people are!) Your group is craving laughter, engagement, and a memorable experience. (Spoiler: They won’t remember the chicken, but they will remember the FUN) 𝟐. Worrying About Decor Over Good Staging, Sound, and Lighting Fancy table settings are wonderful. But if attendees can’t hear the speakers or see what’s happening on stage, your gathering will feel off-purpose. 𝟑. Cramming Too Much Into the Program Too many videos, long intros, announcements, and presentations can overwhelm your audience. Leave them wanting more—not wanting to leave. This one mindset is where a lot of venue owners get stuck... 🧠 I've spoken with a handful over the years, and they all run their space on the same business model. I call it - the synthol model 💉 In the world of bodybuilding the way to build muscle is: - Getting your diet right - Lifting the right weights with the right form - Putting in the reps Not fast enough you say? - Try synthol injections - a quick and easy way to bulk up.... - That damages muscles - Doesn't make you stronger - Oftentimes leads to muscle deformities 😭 Venue owners can fall into a similar thought process when the calendar isn't filling up as quickly as they want. They start injecting passthrough revenue into their model. 💉 - Catering - Decor - Entertainment - Event planning - Floral - Photography - Etc.... At a glance it can make your financial reports look pretty impressive, but look closer and you'll find a deformed model complete with: - Weak bookings - Overworked owners - Massive profit burdens It's a damaging model that disfigures your business (selling space) into the #1 sales rep/virtual assistant for your vendors, and leaves you with the burden of spending unpaid hours: - Coordinating between guests & vendors - Collecting "marked up" payments - Paying out vendors - Adding everything to your books It's how you can wind up with $1M in "revenue" and still turn a loss for the year. 🤮 (something I've actually seen) So here's your homework: - Free up your time - Sell your space - Fill your calendar - Put in the reps Your profits will thank you. 💪 #venueops #venuesales #venuesuccess #haydensvenuetips #weddingvenue This is just one of the pieces that I'm teaching venue owners in my Rocket Venue Boot Camp.
