Trade digitalization presents an substantial opportunity to streamline processes, enhance transparency and unlock new efficiencies across the financial ecosystem.

Digitizing trade is no longer just a vision—it’s happening now. Swift has launched key initiatives aimed at streamlining global trade connectivity, including Digitizing Trade Documents. This initiative focuses on testing the performance of electronic presentations from eBL platforms to Swift members using MT messages and the Swift FileAct service. This workflow has the power to accelerate accessibility to electronic trade documents, creating efficiency, transparency, and sustainability. Through the proof of value (POV) project, WaveBL partnered with Swift, MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, and five global banks, including Lloyds Corporate & Institutional, Federal Bank, and Emirates NBD—to demonstrate how electronic trade document workflows can reshape global trade operations. The POV highlighted faster, seamless, and secure document exchange between Swift members, offering a practical solution to streamline trade finance processes.
