Fasting to raise awareness for children’s hunger | Day 4: Cruising through day 2 of the 48-hour fast, feeling good. Waking up hungry is not my favorite thing ever, but American families are doing it every day. Fasting helps you empathize with the challenge of food insecurity in a deeper way. Saturday I’ll be volunteering at Feeding Northeast Florida - excited for that and will keep you posted! Thanks for the support so far! — Ways you can get involved: 1. Donate or volunteer at a local food bank like Feeding America 2. Health permitting, fast along with me. We’re doing a 1-day fast, a 2-day fast, and a 3-day fast in the first ten days of April. Make sure you take it slow and do your research before you change your eating habits like this. Speaking from experience, the difference between a 1-day fast and a 3-day fast is enormous. 3. Good evening Everyone, As someone who experienced homelessness and hunger as a child (moments like sharing a small jar of peanut butter with my father, eating it straight from spoons, without anyone knowing our struggles), the fight against hunger has always been deeply personal to me. As an adult, I’ve made it a priority to contribute to this cause whenever I can. One simple way has been purchasing food donation boxes like the ones offered at my local Food Lion. It’s a small gesture, but it can put a smile on someone’s face, or at the very least, fill an empty stomach for the night. At Food Lion, these boxes typically include: 1 bag of rice 1 can of tomato sauce 1 box of macaroni and cheese 1 can of green beans 1 can of corn 1 box of spaghetti Thank you to Food Lion, Kellanova, and organizations like The Salvation Army of Central Maryland, Maryland Food Bank, the American Red Cross of the National Capital & Greater Chesapeake Region, and the many volunteers who make these efforts possible. From assembling boxes to ensuring they reach families in need, your work is invaluable. This holiday season, or any time of the year, I encourage everyone to find a way to fight hunger. Whether it’s buying a donation box, contributing to food drives, or volunteering your time, every effort makes a difference. Peanut butter may be protein, but eating it off a spoon doesn’t fill the deeper hunger. Trust me, I know this firsthand. Let’s make a difference together.

I'll be fasting for the first few days in April to raise awareness for children's hunger. Here's what's going on: - 1 in 5 children in America face hunger, including 15% of Florida’s children - Inflation and rising food costs are severely affecting lowest-income families, forcing them to choose between buying groceries or paying for other essential items - Additionally, there is a large population of Military Veterans that are food insecure There is not enough awareness about these issues, but the reality is that in 100% of US states and counties, someone is facing hunger. I'll be fasting for 6 days (1-day fast, 2-day fast, and a 3-day fast) during the first ten days of April, coinciding with Food Waste Prevention Week. I'll also be volunteering at the local food bank - Feeding NorthEast Florida. Here's how you can help: - Donate or volunteer with a local food bank like Feeding America. Just $10 can help provide 62 meals to families in need. - Fast along with me (health permitting). Be careful and don’t push yourself too hard.
