The International Energy Agency (IEA) TASK 1 has published the Trends in PV Applications 2024. The document provides the most comprehensive global overview of the development of the Photovoltaics sector, covering policies, drivers, technologies, statistics and industry analysis. Key Highlights: 🔅Global PV Installations: A record-breaking 456 GW of photovoltaic capacity was installed globally in 2023. 🇨🇳 China’s Dominance: China’s solar market accounted for the majority of global growth, contributing 277 GW, while the rest of the world added 179 GW. 🔌Operational Capacity: By early 2024, over 1.6 TW of PV systems were operational globally, producing 2,136 TWh of electricity, which accounts for 8.3% of global electricity demand. 🪴Emission Reductions: These PV systems reduced 0.92 gigatons of CO2 emissions, equivalent to 2.5% of global energy-related emissions, if we consider they now replace baseload power generation – confirming solar energy as a cornerstone of the sustainable energy transition. 👉Download here full Report: https://lnkd.in/dJp3e-qy #IEA #GSE #renewableenergies

Sungrow’s PowerTitan to Equip the Vilvoorde BESS 800MWh Project by ENGIE in Belgium Sungrow, the global leading PV inverter and energy storage system provider, is happy to announce the supply of its state-of-the-art liquid-cooled BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) solution, the PowerTitan, for the 800MWh Vilvoorde BESS project in Belgium. The project will be developed by ENGIE, an international utility group who is a global reference in low-carbon energy and services. Europe's solar energy sector has seen impressive growth, but it now faces a challenge—solar power production is so high that it's driving electricity prices to zero or even negative levels during times of low demand. This "success" has highlighted the critical need for energy storage solutions. In the first five months of 2024, wholesale electricity prices in several European markets turned negative, meaning energy producers had to pay to offload excess power or halt production altogether. This mismatch between solar energy generation and real-time consumption is exposing vulnerabilities in Europe's energy infrastructure As we accelerate the transition to renewable energy, this situation signals an urgent call for greater investment in energy storage technology, like batteries, to capture excess solar power and deploy it when demand spikes.
