Does anyone remember the first racing game ever on N64? I still remember 1997 like it was yesterday oddly enough and damn do I have many fond memories from my early Christmas gift from my folks, and having turned 8 earlier in the year (my brother a mere 5 year old). It was one of the hardest and I mean hardest racing games initially as a kid who had no grasp on physics, drift, or other elements of racing. My parents were excited and had asked if my brother could play it and to be honest, the complexity of this game wouldn’t allow for him to really grow beyond better learning how to use his hands and gaining dexterity and accuracy. He did his best, given that he was in fact 5 years old. I, on the other hand, made some fair progress until I did not and I hit a wall in the progression. In fact, I hit the wall so hard at one point that I took a break and would not come back to the game for several months upon further developing a grasp on the mechanics of games and adaptation to the controller itself. Beyond the absurd difficulty and desire to unlock all of the vehicles, I loved the graphics and couldn’t believe where games had gone by this point in time, honestly not imagining that even 20 years+ later, the technology would get even more insanely better than it had been at this time. Extreme G was seriously one hell of a game and if you have never played, I 10 out of 10 recommend if you are into racing games. In fact, I loved many of the racing games that came out for the N64…there were too many to name offhand, so I won’t try to recall them all 😂…some include: F-Zero X, Mario Kart 64, Cruisin the World, Snowboarding Kids 1 and 2, Wave Race, Star Wars Episode Racer, etc. What is your most memorable moment of Extreme G or your first racing game on N64?
