Connecting Business with Charities, Social Enterprises and their Community to Innovate for Good 🌱 | With Purpose Network | With Purpose Business Consultant | ESG | Social Impact | Employee Engagement | Social Value 🌎
🌟 When businesses connect with their community, there's always bound to be a sense of purpose and excitement!
Last week, the property world came together in Cambridge with socially focused businesses, community voices, the public sector, education, charities and social enterprises to discuss DOING BUSINESS RESPONSIBLY 💬✨
📍 Hosted at Novotel HotelsChristophe UghettoIlaria ZaffaroniFrancesca Salamone brought to Cambridge by UK Property ForumsMatthew Battle, TeesSarah Coates, and Get Synergised the event sparked powerful conversations around sustainability, the importance of shared values in partnerships, social impact, and economic equality.
In the East of England—particularly in Cambridge—we’re committed to breaking down silos in the construction, planning, and development cycle. By bringing together the business world, public sector, nonprofit partners, and community voices, we can foster collaboration and innovation for mutual benefit. It’s time to work more meaningfully and sustainably across sectors to shape practices and policies that leave a lasting positive legacy 🌱🏘️
💡 From the initial development phases to the full life cycle of projects, we must prioritise:
✅ Sustainability
✅ Community Value
✅ Economic and social equality
As businesses, we have a responsibility to give back to the communities that serve us. It’s about serving a greater purpose beyond our own agendas 🤝💪
Thank you to the panel and speakers:

The MEDC will be hosting four Michigan Main Street communities to talk about their process of becoming involved and the current outcomes. What are the main challenges facing downtown areas today? How can these challenges be addressed to ensure the continued vitality of downtowns? How are communities using the MMS Four Points to further cultivate real estate and small business entrepreneurs to impact revitalization in their communities?
Collaboration among local, state, and regional partners presents an exciting opportunity to encourage and invigorate downtown communities. By fostering alliances between various governmental bodies, businesses, community organizations, and residents, a powerful cooperation emerges—a collective effort to ensure the strength and vitality of downtown areas.

The Metro Atlanta Chamber put revitalizing downtown, improving public safety and ending homelessness in the city’s core at the top of its agenda in 2025 as downtown sees not only a historic wave of investment but also megawatt events that will shine international spotlights on Georgia’s capital city.
The call to support revitalizing downtown into a vibrant, 24-hour community with ample housing comes as Atlanta will play host to the college football national championship in January, World Cup matches in 2026 and several other marquee events in the next five years.
The chamber held its 165th annual meeting Thursday at the Georgia Freight Depot, the oldest building in downtown, where the region’s business leaders gathered to discuss key priorities within this plan, which included addressing the city’s unsheltered population and boosting the housing supply.

Creating Inclusive Communities at St. Davids City Hall
At West Wales Care & Repair, a subsidiary of ateb Group, we believe accessibility is essential for creating inclusive spaces. In partnership with St. Davids City Council, we recently completed the installation of a new access ramp at the City Hall’s Community Zone, ensuring everyone can fully engage in community life.
This project, led by Mike and Louis, demonstrates the power of collaboration and shared goals. Simon Mann, Clerk of St. Davids City Council, noted the significant impact this improvement has had, particularly during community events.
“We are thrilled with the new ramp which has made a real improvement to our accessibility at the rear of the hall. It’s been really noticeable when we hold coffee mornings how much of a difference it’s made, especially for those that use frames or walking aids.” commented Simon.
West Wales Care & Repair’s mission goes beyond building—it’s about Improving Homes, Changing Lives. As part of the ateb Group, we’re proud to make a real difference in communities, one step at a time.
If you know someone who would benefit from improved accessibility or would like to find out more about West Wales Care & Repair please visit our website.

Always a tricky subject, do you know if you are engaged with your residents? A big subject area that needs to see improvement across the sector and is rightly the focus of the regulator but just how the sector copes remains to be seen. At WCH we put tenants at the heart of our decision making and we are making strides where we can to develop our approach and dynamically evolve our strategy.

💥Some great snapshots from the TAI 2024 Conference in Wales to digest, with professionalism in housing being a major feature.
💥Also a look at why housing associations are ditching the X platform, and whether you should too.
💥And my latest piece explores why having tenants on boards is reshaping engagement across the new housing landscape.
I spoke to Christopher Cheshire FCIOB MAPM, non-executive director at Newlon Housing Trust and chair at Watford Community Housing about why having tenants on boards has been so important to the success, and direction, of their organisation.
I also spoke to Gavin Wallen, resident board member at Phoenix Community Housing based in South London, who explained why their model, which is one of the UK’s only resident-led housing associations, is so beneficial to the organisation and community they serve.

Great to have 3 BNZBA members as panelists today discussing the important topic of urban regeneration. Our thanks to Richard Mclellan MRICSGosha (Malgorzata) Haley and Lucy Tukua for providing attendees with their insights and experience from projects such as CRL in Auckland and the 2012 Olympic Games and the Elizabeth Line in London. Lots of good discussion including the need to be smarter about how we undertake infrastructure projects, having a vision that the community buys into and especially how we communicate the long term benefits.
Thanks also to Ben van Bruggen for facilitating and to our hosts Edward Dunphy and Adeline O'Connor of Anthony Harper whose offices provided the perfect setting for the event.
