Are you a ‘reacher’ or are you a ‘looker’? 💡 Went to teamLab Borderless in Tokyo and was blown away by this art installation in one of the rooms. Everyone was looking at the same light show but one guy out in front reached out to see what would happen if he touched it. *zing* The light shot up into the sky like a shooting star. Guess what happened next? Everyone tried to reach for the next one. And the next. And the next. This seems to happen in life. Most people start by ‘watching’ bright things. You could think of them as opportunities. Very few reach out for them. When the ‘lookers’ see that it worked for the ‘reacher’. Then they jump on the bandwagon and fight for the next opportunity. There’s value in being the first person to reach out. After that, it’s usually a frenzy. Early move advantage. That’s the game. PS. Go to anything teamLab. They are all over the world with different themes and exhibitions. Seriously awesome stuff. #outbound #opportunity #mindsethacks

We have BIG MenuAid projects to launch. Today we spent a whole day fostering team culture. Smart or silly? At MenuAid we’re scaling fast, like 10 new epic team members (a 100% increase) in the last 6 weeks fast 🚀🚀🚀 A bit of yesterday & all of today we spent time as a team. At a time when I feel the most under pressure I’ve ever felt in my career. Taking 1.5 days away from the office felt like a big risk. Was it the right time? Here’s my 3 thoughts on why it was a massive HELL YES: 🧨 Execution will drive 80%+ of our success. We need our new team to know each other as humans before we pour on the pressure of launch day. 🧨 I needed to remember why this is so crucial for our business. An epic strategy session from our head fizzer Toby Hilliam (Skilton) certainly delivered that. 🧨 Launching big projects is scary. Our tribe need to be their empowered best selves before we hit go. Time spent laughing & giving each other new nicknames landed that for me (Rodger Chen aka “Pickles” I see you) How do you prepare your team ahead of a big launch? If you’ve got anything to add I’d love to know. ~ If you’re keen to witness something BIG happening in MenuAid land shortly, plus my random marketing thoughts, make sure to follow me at Sarah Aubrey 👀👀

🌍 Celebrating #WorldQualityWeek2024 with a milestone! Three years ago, Icon and Visibuild joined forces to transform quality in construction from a compliance task to a performance-driven culture. Today, Icon’s projects are guided by transparency, data traceability, and real-time insights that empower teams to consistently exceed expectations. Peter Billimoria, Icon Group's QA Manager, says it best: "Visibuild didn’t just provide a platform; it brought a transformation to how we think about quality. The changes we've seen aren’t just about compliance; they’re about raising our performance on every level." 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞. When I started my role as a junior concept developer at iconmobile in 2008, one of my reasons for joining was the opportunity to work abroad. Besides the Berlin headquarters, the company had offices in London and Santa Monica. Within weeks after I came on board, I learned that there were plenty of opportunities. Left and right, I saw colleagues taking off to their international assignments, mainly to the US. I stood mainly grounded. And then, finally, something interesting happened. Iconmobile announced they would open an office in Beijing and create a joint venture with Ogilvy in China. At that time, the closest I had gotten to Asia was by crossing the Bosporus and spending half a day on the Anatolian side of Istanbul. However, I had to seize that opportunity. So, I wrote an email to Iconmobile's executive team to explain how I could support the business's growth onsite in China. A few months later, in April 2009, at 25 and with less than three years of working experience, I took Hainan Airlines from Berlin to Beijing. What started as a three-month assignment, initiated with a brief email, led to the biggest adventure of my life. This one email was my ticket to working across Asia and living in China, Singapore, and Taiwan. There was no sophisticated 5-year career plan or anything like that. I just had a bit of faith that this could work. And the best of all, I found my partner and started a family. 𝐈𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐩𝐢𝐞𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞, 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬: ✌️Be open to unexpected opportunities. ✌️A 1% chance is good enough to try. Just give it a shot. ✌️Enjoy the journey and embrace failures (they will happen). 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 15𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐞. PS: The image shows my first Ogilvy badge with my first Chinese name. My wife later changed it to 司馬樂 (I have a badge with that name, too). PPS: There are too many to name who made the last 15 years possible. You know who you are.
