Redesigning a ninja logo! 🥷 Floor Ninja is a UK-based premium flooring company that supplies and installs various flooring types (such as carpets, luxury vinyl tile, wood flooring and laminate flooring). Their founder, Luke, first reached out to me in the hopes of designing a more simple logo than the brand’s existing one, resulting in a more premium feel. He also required a corresponding visual identity to reinforce the brand’s overall appearance. For the logomark, I created an abstract Ninja face, made up of four separate simple shapes. Within the design, the Ninja’s face is concealed by a mask, leaving only the area around the eyes exposed. The shape of this area has been derived from the shape of a flooring plank, providing a subtle link back to the flooring industry. Mastering Design Harmony with the 60-30-10 Color Rule The 60-30-10 color rule is a timeless design principle widely used across graphic design, interior design, and branding to create visually appealing and balanced compositions. This rule provides a simple formula for distributing colors in a project, ensuring harmony and avoiding overwhelming visuals. Understanding the Rule The rule suggests dividing the color palette into three distinct proportions: 60% (Dominant Color): This is the primary color of your design, setting the tone and creating the overall mood. It acts as the foundation, giving structure and consistency to the visual layout. 30% (Secondary Color): This is the complementary color that supports the dominant shade, adding depth and contrast without overpowering it. 10% (Accent Color): The smallest proportion is reserved for the accent color, which injects vibrancy and interest, drawing attention to specific elements. Why It Works The 60-30-10 rule leverages color psychology to create balance and cohesion. The dominant color creates stability, the secondary color brings diversity, and the accent color provides energy. This balance ensures that no single element overwhelms the viewer, maintaining clarity and focus. Practical Applications 1. Graphic Design: When designing a website, use the dominant color for backgrounds (60%), the secondary for buttons and sections (30%), and the accent for call-to-action elements (10%). 2. Interior Design: In a living room, paint the walls in the dominant color (60%), use the secondary for furniture (30%), and add the accent with decor items like cushions or artwork (10%). 3. Branding: A brand's logo can adhere to this rule, with the dominant shade as the base, secondary for typography, and accent for highlights or icons. The 60-30-10 color rule is a powerful yet straightforward tool for creating visually pleasing designs. By ensuring color harmony and strategic emphasis, it helps designers craft engaging, balanced compositions that effectively communicate their message. #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking
