Time and time again, I’ve said it: #TogetherWeAreStronger. While it might apply to football (yes, we randomly support #Middlesbrough! ⚽), today, I’m talking about the business of making a difference. #Collaboration is key. That’s why I’m thrilled to have attended the first planning meeting for an important event in the South-West. In September/October 2025 (tbc), the Baton of Hope UK is coming to Torbay. This powerful symbol unites those impacted by suicide, creating space for healing, connection, and national conversations around mental health. 🌍 If you or someone you know has been affected by suicide, you can apply to be a Baton Bearer at the Torbay event: https://lnkd.in/eir-X67i Together, we can educate, support each other, reduce suicide, and shape a brighter future. 🌟 Applications are scheduled to close at the end of January. 🙏 Please share the link above, widely. This Movember, I’m fundraising and challenging myself in different ways to raise awareness and support for men’s mental health. Along with growing out my facial hair, I plan on challenging myself physically to show how vital physical health is to our mental health. Movember isn’t just about facial hair, it’s about breaking the silence around men’s health issues, especially mental health, and supporting programs that help men live healthier, happier, and longer lives. We are taking part in the Big Give #Kind2Mind campaign which means if we can raise £5,000 it will be matched, pound for pound. £10,000 will make an enormous difference to us as we’re currently fundraising to keep our Buddy and Befriending project going so we can carry on providing weekly phone called to over 360 lonely and socially isolated people, some of whom don’t hear from anyone else between phone calls. The government published a ‘Loneliness Monetisation Report’ in June 2020, which estimates that the wellbeing cost of moderate to severe loneliness is equivalent to £9,537 per person per year. Therefore: - £21 would fund our Buddy & Befriending programme to provide four friendly phone calls to a lonely or isolated older person. - £250 would fund our Buddy & Befriending programme to provide a friendly, weekly phone call to a lonely or socially isolated person for a year. - £750 would fund our Buddy & Befriending programme to provide a friendly, weekly phone call to around six lonely or isolated older people for six months. - £1,500 would fund our Buddy & Befriending programme to provide a friendly, weekly phone call to around six lonely or isolated older people for a year. Globally, the rate of suicide is alarmingly high, particularly in men. Too many men are ‘toughing it out’, keeping their feelings to themselves, and struggling in silence. The Movember Foundation is aiming to reduce the rate of male suicide by 25% by 2030, and I want to help them get there. Help me stop men dying too young. Movement helps men’s health. The easiest way to overcome most human affliction is to prevent it before it begins. For example: don’t want to get addicted to coffee? I recommend you never try a mocha (which we ALL know is the gateway drug that leads a person from the warm comfort of hot chocolate to the frenzied desperation of caffeine addiction). But enough about me… We all know it works this way (at least the majority of the time) with type 2 diabetes, pornography, drug addiction, etc. It might not be easy, but you can stop it before it begins. The same is true with homelessness. It is much easier to stop a family from becoming homeless, than it is to pull them back out. But how? - Some help with an unexpected medical bill from a catastrophic diagnosis - A rent check because the new job has paid them quite yet - Some healthy groceries because inflation killed the small budget gap they had left.
