Empathy and self-reflection. My capacity to establish connections effortlessly often conflicts with my unease during challenging discussions. Although these traits have been advantageous in sales, they have presented difficulties in leadership. Conquering this flaw required me to cultivate empathy for my team members, surpassing my struggles, which were essentially self-centred. My aversion to tough conversations originates not only from my yearning for others' well-being but also from my desire to be liked, probably driven by ego. I no longer dismiss this inclination as mere niceness, recognizing it as a weakness and detrimental trait in a leader. Nevertheless, by authentically caring for my employees, I have discovered comfort even in the most arduous dialogues. Recently, I had to reduce the working hours of two employees due to circumstances beyond their control. This meeting, which I had been anxious about for weeks, highlighted the significance of responsibility, empathy, and tough decisions in leadership. While the meeting had some emotional moments, I felt that my compassion for the people involved made the outcome honest, balanced, and empathetic. I came away feeling a sense of comfort that I had done the right thing. As a leader, I must consider the well-being of my team collectively and individually. Making choices that benefit both the organization and its employees demands a high level of empathy and self-reflection.

Tip#5. BE PERSONABLE, AND SHOW YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR TEAM AS A PERSON. One of the most effective ways to have people want to follow you as a leader is to make them feel like you truly care about them. Ask about their interests and genuinely be curious about their lives. Many team members who feel you are uncaring or unfair are more willing to cheat on their expected workload and think they can get away with it. They will feel like they are just a number, so what does it matter what they do? If they feel they are being managed by someone who is trustworthy and acts with integrity, and at the same time cares about people as well as the work, they will feel like they are a true part of the team. They will see you as a leader to follow and will perform better. #Medaase
