"Rail cars in Brazil for freight train company MRS Logística are now equipped with Iridium satellite connectivity as part of a new collaboration announced Tuesday. MRS is a freight train company in Brazil and its train network transports nearly 20% of all Brazilian exports and a third of the country’s railway cargo. Iridium partner Satcom Direct Brasil implemented Iridium Certus 700 satellite connectivity on MRS Logística’s locomotives by installing Thales MissionLINK 700 equipment. This connectivity enables real-time communication between train drivers and operation centers to exchange critical information for train location management and safety. The Thales MissionLink terminals allow for a data rate of up to 704 Kbps. Its functions include internet access, telemetry for train maintenance, radio over internet protocol (RoIP), and voice calls, allowing direct contact with the driver. The terminals can automatically switch between satellite and cellular connectivity. “With Iridium Certus, MRS Logística can reduce the distance between trains and monitor exactly where each train is. This represents a significant operational gain both in efficiency in the volume of cargo transported and in safety thanks to precise monitoring that allows more trains to operate. It is an innovative and essential service for our operations,” said Fernando Martins Manzotti, railway specialist, telecommunications systems, MRS Logística." Via Satellite

#DiscoverERTMSwhichTheUnsungHeroofRailwaySafety -1 #IntroductiontoERTMS Are you ready to explore the complex world of #ERTMS? If your response is yes, you can continue to read it and witness how ERTMS is transforming the railway industry! Get ready to have two important questions answered in today's post. What is ERTMS? ERTMS, Eurpoian Rail Traffic Management System is the cornerstone of European Railway Sector. The purpose of this system is to provide control over all European Railway Traffic with a single and unique system. The development of the ERTMS system was initiated in 1989, following the allocation of funding by the European Union for the analysis of railway traffic. The system was fully adopted across Europe, leading to the establishment of TSI (Technical Specifications and Interoperability) in 1993. The reach of ERTMS has extended beyond European borders, with its deployment now underway in various regions across the globe. Why is ERTMS needed? Before ERTMS, ATP equipment varied between the countries. This situation was making it difficult for train transfer to cross the border. I am willing to explain this event with an example. Let's consider a scenario where we need to transport goods by train from Amsterdam to Paris. This rail Locomotive The route passes through three different counties and these countries have different systems. Netherland has ATB, Belgium has TBL and France has TVM/KVB systems. If we are willing to complete the route with one locomotive, our locomotive must have three onboard units. There are several problems we need to solve for this installation. These are space area for Onboard Units, interface problems and cost. If we change our opinion, we need three different locomotives to complete this route. Changing locomotives at each transition zone will result in cost implications due to time loss. However, the ERTMS system provides a solution for complete the route with one Locomotive. Not only do you perform this activity with one locomotive in Europe, but it is also your route can be included from Europe to another continent, if required. If you know more about this subject, you have a question or want to share your experience with us, please don’t forget to write a comment.

📣 Great news: The installation of repeaters for mobile signals into the wagons of the Czech Railways, realized by Kontron Transportation s.r.o. and CD-Telematika 🚆 ČD (the Czech Railways) has signed a framework contract for the supply and installation of 5G mobile signal repeaters in all Pendolino and InterPanter units as well as in 6 railjet units. The installation will be provided by a consortium of ČD - Telematika a.s. and Kontron Transportation s.r.o. and will start at the beginning of next year for the railjet units and should be completed by the end of 2025. The entire solution consists of an external broadband antenna supporting the transmission of GPS information, the repeater itself, a GSM-R attenuation filter to ensure smooth operation of the railway signalling system (GSM-R / ETCS) and an internal infrastructure on board the train to ensure signal distribution. "Kontron Transportation's solution is purely European, because of our development facility for our technology in Switzerland. We are honored that this solution will be used by a national carrier in the Czech Republic," said Petr Vítek, Managing Director of Kontron Transportation s.r.o. #KontronTransportation #Passion4Railways #Railwaydedication #FRMCS #CDTelematika #CzechRailways

Westermo Cellular Data - Helps Cut Train Delays Westermo robust and highly reliable cellular products are helping Network Rail (NR) cut train delays in East Anglia. The Westermo MRD-455 can pinpoint the location of a fault in the overhead lines to about 300 to 400 metres of accuracy. That’s a vast improvement on previous tech which at times could only pinpoint a fault to 17km. This can in turn helps NR fix faults much faster – and get your journeys running again. A more efficient solution Much of the Anglia route is electrified and so relies on overhead line wires to power the electric trains running here. Using a cellular modem solution in Anglia will help us gain the same benefits but at a fraction of the cost of installing remote control systems.

Transport for NSW has shared a great video that explains how one of the most advanced train signalling systems works. It features the Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) system, which is one of the most high-tech systems used in railways today. The system operates at the highest automation level, Grade of Automation 4 (GoA4). This means the metro run completely on their own, with no driver, no driver’s cabin, and no staff on board. The video helps show how the entire railway system works together. It covers an overview from the Operation Control Center to the metro. By showing how different parts connect, it makes it easier to understand how a fully automated train system operates. This technology helps trains run more efficiently and to shape the future of urban transport. Video credit: Transport for NSW
