International Day of the Girl Child: Empowering Voices, Securing Futures Today, we celebrate this day, known as the International Day of the Girl Child- a reminder that each girl in every corner of our world possesses a potential beyond limits. This day brings to light the challenges that girls face, but more importantly, it raises their voices and rights to equal opportunities. Girls are powerful agents of change. When equipped with education, healthcare, and protection from discrimination, they can break the cycle of poverty and lead innovation to build more resilient communities. Still, too many girls suffer barriers to fundamental rights, including child marriage, other forms of gender-based violence, and a lack of opportunities in education. Our collective responsibility is to stand up for every girl so she can dream freely, grow with support, and thrive with resources. Let's champion policies and initiatives that provide girls with safe spaces, quality education, and leadership opportunities. We are investing not just in their future but in that of humanity. Let us, on this day, re-dedicate ourselves to a world where every girl gets an opportunity to shine. We can jointly create a world of equality, inclusion, and empowerment for each girl child. #DayOfTheGirl #GirlPower #EmpowerGirls #EducationForAll

Today, on the International Day of the Girl Child, we don’t just celebrate girls, we ignite a movement. This is more than a day. It’s a global declaration that the future of our world depends on how we treat, empower, and uplift girls today. It’s a call to break down the walls of inequality, tear apart the stereotypes, and rewrite the narrative of what it means to be a girl in every corner of the globe. Girls are not just waiting for change, they are leading it. From the front lines of activism to the classrooms, boardrooms, and beyond, they are claiming their space, demanding their rights, and daring to dream of a world where their voices are not just heard but amplified. But the fight is far from over. Millions of girls are still denied the right to education, still held back by harmful traditions, still told they cannot. We must change this. We have the power to redefine what’s possible for every girl, to give her the tools, the resources, and the freedom to not only dream but to achieve. Today, we don’t just stand with girls. We stand for them. For their right to shape their own futures, to shatter every barrier, and to create a world where being a girl is the ultimate power. 💖 Happy International Day of the Girl Child. #InternationalDayoftheGirl #PinkUpForGirls #BreakTheBarriers #GirlsLeadTheWay #TheFutureIsFemale #EmpowerHer #RedefiningHerFuture #TheWomenInternational #TheGoodwayFoundation

Today, we celebrate International Day of the Girl by honoring the remarkable girls who are leading, dreaming, and transforming the world. We firmly believe that girls are experts of their own lives—and brilliant feminist activists. So, who best to guide our work than girls themselves? Our Adolescent Girls Advisory Council (AGAC) plays a key role in driving key strategic decisions across our organization including how to redistribute funds and other resources through our Adolescent Girls’ Rights program. In their countries and regions, they run girl-focused clubs, work with feminist groups and children’s rights organizations, serve as youth advisors, and many more. Around the world, girls are innovating to build a climate- just future, to end period poverty and racial discrimination, and to fight for education for everyone –– and they are winning! How About the Boy Child??? Yesterday was the international day of the Girl Child, and everywhere was flooded with messages celebrating girls including social media and news channels. While this is an important cause, it sparked an interesting conversation with my young nephew. He asked and I quote; - Why are they celebrating the girl child? - How about the boy child? - Are we not important in society? - Are we not vulnerable? - Why is it always about the girl child? I explained to him that we celebrate the girl child because, around the world, many girls face specific challenges that boys might not experience in the same way. In some places, girls are denied the right to go to school, forced into early marriages, or not allowed to make decisions about their own futures. This day is meant to highlight those issues and encourage the society to create more opportunities for girls, ensuring they can achieve their dreams just like boys can. I reassured him that boys are absolutely important and that their struggles and vulnerabilities are valid too. But historically, girls have had fewer opportunities in education, leadership, and personal freedom in many parts of the world. By celebrating the girl child, we are working to make sure that girls get the same chances boys have. As I reflected further, I realised he was not wrong to ask why boys aren't celebrated in the same way. They, too, face pressures - whether it's the expectation to be tough, to hide their emotions, or to live up to certain standards society places on them. They are important, and we must continue to support and nurture both boys and girls. The goal is not to elevate one gender above the other but to ensure equality for all - so that both boys and girls can thrive and contribute to society. 📢Let me see your thoughts in the comments section on how we can better support both genders in our society!!! #LinkedInFamily #Mums #Society #Parents #Letsconnect

Today, on International Day of the Girl Child, we celebrate the dreams and aspirations of girls everywhere. This year’s theme, “Girls’ Vision for the Future,” gives us a glimpse into what they see for themselves and the world around them. We spoke to our Girl Icon Alumni, and their responses were a mix of ambition and stark reality. Many girls shared dreams of becoming doctors, teachers, and nurses—eager to graduate and make a difference in their communities. But, in contrast, some dreams were rooted in the pursuit of the most basic rights—like going to school instead of being forced into child labour at a young age. These visions are a powerful reminder of the inequalities that still exist. More profoundly, some girls are not only thinking of themselves but of their entire communities. They envision a future where violence against women is eradicated, where female foeticide no longer exists, and where every girl grows up in a society that respects her rights and dignity. At Milaan, we stand with these girls and their dreams, working tirelessly to create a world where every girl’s vision can be realized—a world where education, equality, and empowerment are within reach for all. How can we collectively create a society that values every girl's aspirations? #InternationalDayOfTheGirlChild #GirlsVisionForTheFuture #GirlsDream #MilaanFoundation #EndViolence #EducationForAll #EmpowerGirls #GirlsRights #EqualityForAll Tripti Srivastava Monika P.

"Boys on the Left, Girls on the Right" — Why Are We Still Doing This? 🤔 Scrolling through my child's school festival and picnic photos, I noticed something that caught my attention (and not in a good way). The kids were divided into two groups: boys vs. girls. Wait, what year is it again? 😅 I get it—organizing activities for kids can be a challenge. But splitting them up by gender? It feels like a throwback to an era we should’ve left behind. Our children are growing up in a world that’s more diverse and inclusive than ever, and it’s high time our school activities reflect that. Why draw unnecessary lines when they’re perfectly happy to cross them? Let’s teach kids to connect, collaborate, and celebrate each other's uniqueness, not to stay within their “assigned” groups. The future isn’t boys vs. girls; it’s boys AND girls, learning and growing together. So, here’s a thought: Instead of “boys on the left, girls on the right,” how about just “let’s have fun, together”? 👫🤝 Dear schools, teachers, and parents — let’s start breaking down these barriers, not building them. Encourage kids to explore, share, and grow beyond gender labels. Let's prepare them for a world that celebrates unity and diversity. 🌍💫 #Beyondboundaries #InclusivityInAction #BreakTheStereotype #EmpowerTheFuture

“Writing is the glue to learning.” - Dr. Leroy Gaines, OUSD Superintendent Check out the Evaluation Report from Chapter 510 below to learn more about how we are boosting students’ love for learning!
Hot Off the Press: Chapter 510's Evaluation Report! More than ten years ago, we all dreamed about a place where children and teens could write in a safe environment with caring adults and be themselves. An intimate place with color, light, and laughter. Where work hard, play hard led to something joyful and confidence-building that evolved into a reliable source of power. Today, this work has touched the lives of 5,000 primarily Black, brown, and queer youth, resulting in over 100 published books. Many thanks to RISE Research & Evaluation. Their deep respect for youth creative practice has allowed us to examine and share our impact. This evaluation has been years in the making. With RISE’s perseverance, we can share our story with champions of learning like you.
