Why is it so hard to get people to volunteer at church? Many churches struggle with volunteer recruitment because they don’t make the first step easy enough, or they fail to connect volunteer roles to the larger mission. But it doesn’t have to be this way! In my latest blog post, I summarize the biggest barriers to recruiting volunteers and offer actionable tips to improve your efforts. Here's a sneak peek: 1. Create one-time, low-risk opportunities. 2. Align volunteer roles with your church's mission. 3. Celebrate volunteers publicly to inspire others.

Veteran Housing Corp says that IF YOU ARE NOT PART OF A PERMANENT AND LASTING SOLUTION TO THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING CRISIS AND HOMELESSNESS, YOU ARE THE PROBLEM! THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX IS BROKEN AND NOT WORKING FOR AMERICAN TAXPAYERS Veteran Housing Corp would ask every TAXPAYER to demand and get answers from their elected and appointed government officials the below questions as they relate to any affordable, workforce, or supportive housing project in your community! 1. How much local, state, and federal funding, tax credits, or other government benefits or incentives did the project receive? 2. What is the affordability period for each project? Is the affordability period permanent and in perpetuity? 3. What guarantees exist have your local, state, and federal government officials obtained in writing that rents will not go up or that tenants will not be displaced or evicted after the "affordability period expires? Every local, state, and federal housing authority and affordable or workforce housing stakeholder should adopt the State of Vermont's "permanent affordability" policy as a model for all future government funded or subsidized housing projects or developments, no exceptions! https://lnkd.in/eFEUC8c8 Additionally, local, state and federal housing agencies should look to the Helsinki, FINLAND MODEL of ending homelessness by providing affordable housing for all 'It’s a miracle': Helsinki's radical solution to homelessness https://lnkd.in/er9HZSQU Even the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development AGREES THAT adopting FINLAND'S MODEL OF ERADICATING HOMELESSNESS may be of great value to resolving the affordable housing and homelessness crises in America https://lnkd.in/gkSZWYRU

Want to make an impact but you don't know where to start? You'll find the organizations you want to make a difference with at the Volunteer fair this upcoming Sunday, Nov. 3rd at the Adams County Community Center! 🤝Volunteering in your community is important for several reasons, both for individuals and the local economy: - Economic Activity: Volunteer-driven projects can stimulate local economies by attracting funding and resources that might not otherwise be available. - Skill Development: Volunteers often gain new skills, which can improve their employability and contribute to a more skilled workforce. - Resource Allocation: Volunteers can help fill gaps in services, making local initiatives more robust. - Health Benefits: Engaging in volunteer work has been linked to improved mental and physical health, as it can reduce stress and increase happiness. - Community Development: Volunteers contribute to projects that enhance local infrastructure, parks, and recreational areas, improving the overall quality of life.

It often happens that I get so caught up in my daily life (and head) but I am so thankful for having joined Latinos for Education as a 2024 Latino Board Fellow. Connecting with people who have a shared vision of Latino representation, education, and advancement is invigorating and powerful! - 40% of Fortune 1000 companies are inclusive of Latinos on their corporate boards, reflecting a 5 percentage point increase from 2022 – the second most notable increase since 2019. - With most of the progress occurring outside of the Fortune 100, minimal progress continues in the Fortune 100, shifting from 53% to 54% in Latino representation. - While slow, Latino board representation continues to rise. The numbers have increased to 5.4% of Fortune 500 seats held by a Latino and 4.9% among Fortune 1000, a 1% and .8% respectively, one of the most notable increases for both segments since 2020. Please take a look at Latinos for Education and their amazing programs that support communities across the United States
Introducing Ana María Gomez: a dedicated professional committed to fostering positive change within communities. As the VP, Community Development Officer at Rockland Trust, she collaborates with local organizations to empower individuals and create avenues for upward mobility by leveraging her regulatory experience. She joined the 2024 Latino Board Fellowship, which supports and places Latino leaders onto governing boards of schools and education nonprofit organizations. VOLUNTEER WORK When engaging in volunteer work and to avoid feeling abused, it is essential to: 1. Conduct a self-assessment to ensure that the chosen volunteer opportunity aligns with your personal vision, interests and motivations. 2. Establish clarity regarding the alignment of the volunteer opportunity with your long-term vision and goals. 3. Familiarize yourself with the organization you intend to volunteer with, and ensure that a formal agreement or contract is in place. 4. Clearly define your expectations and communicate them effectively to the leadership don't just plug in. My involvement in a school volunteer program since 2013 has resulted in a remarkable outcome. In 2018, individuals who had previously benefited from our support emerged as the primary financial contributors to the program, not only in that particular school but also in other schools across the country. Our motivation was to build a community where those who benefited can sponsor children access such services and higher education. This has exceeded our expectations as these children are creating room for their poverty-stricken "siblings" to pursue their dreams. We are no longer running the program. These champions are the ones running it.

You know what day it is: #MeetYourMatch Monday! For those of you planning to attend as a FREE guest/ potential volunteer, please remember that we run from noon to 4 pm. When we say 4PM, be aware that we start packing up then. We have exactly an hour to clear up before the gym is turned over to the Youth Programs. If you show up at 3:55 and expect to take your time, you may be disappointed. Also, be aware that we can't control parking. The YMCA is still operational during our volunteer fair, so they will have their usual traffic, plus us. Are you taking the bus? You're good. If you are attending as a participant in the fair, please note that we have access to the gym starting at 11. You have an hour to set up, and an hour to pack up and cede the gym to its regularly scheduled activities, so please plan your display accordingly. Being considerate guests means being thorough and time-aware. It's a volunteer fair, not Laser Floyd. Any difficulties, please seek out one of the friendly Volunteer Peterborough members, who will happy to help you out. We are really, really looking forward to this. We want everyone to have a great experience, and sometimes that means planning ahead. Event details here, if you haven't already committed them to memory: https://buff.ly/3UmCoH5 See you there! YMCA Balsillie Branch, Noon to 4pm THIS WEDNESDAY! (May 8th) #volunteerfair #volunteerrecruitment #communitybuilding #meetyourmatch #planahead #volunteersrock
