We need a broader focus on health in the City of Melton. I've been a nurse for over 10 years having worked at two major hospitals and still serving our wonderful community in the west. What I know is further backed up by census data that shows we have a higher proportion of people with a long-term health condition 32.9% compared to 29.5% in Greater Melbourne. A larger percentage with mental health condition (10.6% compared to 8.1%) A larger percentage with asthma (10.3% compared to 7.9%) A larger percentage with diabetes (6.0% compared to 4.5%) A larger percentage with arthritis (8.1% compared to 6.9%) The Melton Hospital will be a great addition but it won't solve all our problems. We need to focus on community health and health prevention at a local level. So let's get health on the agenda! #health #cityofmelton #melton #meltonhealth

The American Hospital Association defines community health as "non-clinical approaches for improving health, preventing disease and reducing health disparities." This Community Health Improvement Week, we are bringing awareness to those whose work helps foster community health and wellbeing. Increasingly, community health agencies are dedicated to addressing social determinants of health, which can be summed up as "where we live, work and play," and how they can affect anyone, regardless of age, race or ethnicity. 💡 With strong knowledge of social determinants, providers can screen for social needs and guide individuals to both clinical and non-clinical resources for improving overall wellbeing, such as therapy or housing. Governor Newsom has signed AB 2703 into law, a significant win for expanding mental health care access, especially in California’s rural and low-income communities. With nearly one-third of California's adults and teens struggling with anxiety and depression, this law comes at a crucial time. I'm proud of CAMFT's advocacy for this important legislation and grateful to Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry for her leadership. AB 2703 addresses our mental health workforce shortage by simplifying MFT hiring and enabling psychological associates to be reimbursed under their supervisors. Now, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and Rural Health Clinics (RHCs) can more easily add MFTs as billable providers without the lengthy administrative burden and costly process of submitting a change in scope of services. This law is a step towards ensuring all Californians can access the mental health care they need. #MentalHealth #AB2703 #CAMFT
