It’s a new week and a new opportunity to learn about setting measurable goals! Environmental Initiative is sharing a bite-sized piece of the goal-setting process for a successful farmer outreach program every week in August. This week it’s time to get SMART. The SMART framework is an essential tool to clearly define who you want to connect with, what you want them to do, when you want them to act, and why the action is important. See the graphic below for the five attributes of a SMART goal. Reviewing this framework is the first step in setting a SMART goal. Going over the five key components can keep you on track as you start refining your goals in the next step. If you can’t wait until next week to learn about brainstorming, drafting, and adapting your goal statements, check out the first step of our farmer engagement playbook at reachfarmersfaster.org. You can also DM Deborah Carter McCoy for more information about a hands-on workshop that guides participants through the entire process of creating a data-driven farmer outreach program.

🤝 “Have You Ever Considered a Plan for the Farm’s Future—Just to Make Things Easier on Us?” It’s all about making things easier for everyone down the track. Asking your parents if they’ve thought about a plan isn’t about rushing them, but helping to ensure there’s clarity and ease when the time comes. Don’t forget—sometimes the best way forward is to get an outsider involved, like Mark Westcott, who specializes in making these tough conversations smoother. 💬 👉 Another of 5 ideas to get the ball rolling! #FamilyFarms #SuccessionTalks #RuralFamilyBusiness #AustralianAgriculture

The best part of this story? After writing this blog, I went to Ocean City with the girls, and Jeff and I didn’t even discuss the route I had taken where I realized all of this. While we were gone, he also took a different route on the hike coming to my conclusion that we just were starting at different places. When we finally talked, we both had the same epiphany: we were going different ways, but taking the same journey! Read my Bluewater Advisory blog: https://lnkd.in/eTPPSwNQ

Did you know we have a YouTube channel? Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/e9X5rRd9 . We offer a variety of videos ranging from introductory content to in-depth explorations across two existing playlists. Excitingly, the first part of our new playlist, “Guide to Interpreting CEESAT 'Reliability Criteria,” is now live! Watch it here: https://lnkd.in/eEnj-_r7. In this video, Andrew Pullin provides an insightful introduction to the CEESAT (CEE Synthesis Appraisal Tool) and guides you through interpreting the reliability assessments found in the CEEDER database. CEEDER is our unique open-access database, managed by Barbara LIVOREIL, that collates and assesses environmental evidence reviews, helping researchers and decision-makers locate reliable, rigorous, and repeatable information. Our trained volunteers independently evaluate reviews for their transparency, procedural rigour, and potential for bias, providing a comprehensive assessment of their reliability for informed decision-making. Join us on this journey to enhance your understanding of environmental evidence synthesis and its crucial role in policy and practice! #evidencesynthesis #systematicreviews #systematicmaps #rapidreviews #plainlanguagesummaries #environmental #decisionmaking #policy #training #volunteers #peerreview

Have you been following our posts about goal setting this month? If not, visit our page to find information on gathering stakeholders, grounding your team in purpose, and the SMART goal framework. If you’re caught up, it’s time to start brainstorming, drafting, and adapting your goal statements! Brainstorming will often start around a broad pain point in your work. Perhaps you’re seeing low engagement with your content or high levels of local soil erosion. Whatever the issue, defining how actions can solve it is the next step for your team. As you home in on what action you want to take, draft progressively detailed goals to address your pain point until you have one that is specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time bound. Visit reachfarmersfaster.org to access the first step of our farmer engagement playbook and keep learning about setting measurable goals, or contact Deborah Carter McCoy to inquire about a workshop that will walk attendees through the process of creating data-driven farmer outreach programs.
