The Ahmed ClearPath 250 (New World Medical) is valveless glaucoma drainage device (GDD), fits seamlessly between ocular muscles, eliminating the need for muscle isolation during implantation. The device is conveniently packaged with a pre-threaded 4–0 polypropylene rip cord and a 23-gauge needle, facilitating the creation of a sclerostomy. Compared to other GDDs, the ACP 250 conforms better to the curvature of the globe, is easier to suture to the sclera, requires shorter operating time, and offers greater overall ease of use, enhancing surgical efficiency and patient outcomes. During the initial days of using the device, I encountered a few cases with prolonged hypotony. To mitigate this issue, I began performing double ligation using 3-2-1 knots with 8-0 vicryl, and leaving the prolene in the tube extending up to the anterior chamber. I personally prefer the 'taco' method, where the plate is folded and inserted via a smaller conjunctival incision. Last week, Dr. Crooks talked about spinal compression fractures. This week, let's talk about their surgical treatment: Kyphoplasties! The procedure consists of inserting a balloon into the affected vertebrae under x-ray guidance.
