I’ve been holding back online for years. Why? Honestly, I was afraid. Afraid of being called out, taken down, or judged by strangers on the internet. (Who isn’t?) But here’s the thing—when you’re fighting for something that truly matters, fear has no place. So today, I’m ripping off the Band-Aid and telling you the real story of Sheertex. Here’s the truth: Sheertex isn’t profitable. Not even close. We lose millions every year. I’ve cried more tears over this company than I’d care to admit. But we’ve also raised $250M, built one of the most advanced textile factories in North America, and proven there’s demand for a game-changing product. Our tights once cost over $100 each to make. Today, they cost $13. By next year, they’ll cost $5. But we’re still fighting tooth and nail to survive. This year, we sold nearly 2M pairs of tights. Next year, B2B partners want nearly 10M units—if we can scale fast enough to meet demand, and do it at the right price. No easy task. We’re just quarters away from profitability, but the stakes have never been higher. Every fundraise is hand-to-mouth. Every sleepless night is spent wondering if the next leap forward will be our last. It’s exhausting, terrifying, and somehow still the most fulfilling thing I’ve ever done. Here’s why it matters: We’re not just selling tights. We’re building the infrastructure for a more sustainable future. Circular recycling systems, recyclable spandex, automation—things that could transform an industry. But it all takes time, and time is the one thing we don’t have unless you care. This isn’t a pity party—it’s a call to action. If you’ve ever believed in the underdog, in fighting for change when the odds are stacked against you, then please read the full story. I poured my heart into it. https://lnkd.in/eJxgNNgC

I have bought about a half dozen pairs of your tights over the years and recommended them to all my friends. I am a West Island gal and felt so proud to see you take over than old time cable company location that I remember driving by all throughout my childhood, it’s amazing to see all that you have accomplished so far! Keep it up!! I just listened to Yvon Chouinard’s book about Patagonia called Let my People Go Surfing and he speaks to how they revolutionized the garment industry both upstream downstream and for their consumers, communities and planet, I want to assume you’ve read it but if you haven’t I recommend it as he speaks to many of the struggles you are living through. Patrick Pichette would Sheertex be a Canadian company you could support with your network eg Yvon given its alignment to your planetary values?

Thank you for continuing to push boundaries, Katherine Homuth and the Sheertex team. Sheertex has been such a game-changer for me! Living in NYC, I’ve lost count of how many times my tights have failed me—ripped, torn, or ruined by the endless challenges this city throws at them. (esp on the subway) But your product truly that survives the true test of time. I own multiple styles, and they’ve never let me down. Reading about the immense challenges you’ve faced to bring this vision to life—innovating at scale, navigating the tough economics, and building something truly transformative—makes me appreciate your product and mission even more. It’s clear this hasn’t been an easy journey, but your honesty and determination are incredibly inspiring.

Naysayers will always naysay. They want to make themselves look smart. They want to feel superior to you. They don’t want to admit they were wrong, so they continue to naysay. Most people don’t believe in moonshots because they can’t do what you do. Read my reply to Katherine's posts: https://allensthoughts.com/2024/12/08/naysayer/

When I bought my first Sheertex tights 9 days ago, I was just another grown woman tired of rips and ready for better. Now, I feel like I'm part of a movement. Make movements.

Congrats Katherine - I was just thinking of you this weekend in NYC as a bus in zoomed by me with a Sheertex wrap. I thought “go Katherine Go!” You got this!
