Imagine….. Being in the Women’s Olympic Beach Volleyball final. Sets are tied, scores are close in the final set. A play happens and tensions spill over. 🔥 Two opposing players are giving verbals through the net. The ref has stepped in to keep them apart. The other two teammates are trying to diffuse the situation too. Then a stroke of genius. 🎼 The stadium dj plays John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’. One player after another starts to smile. The crowd start singing along. You could feel the tension melt. 💕 The players actually waited to hear out the song, recognising what the dj was wanting to do. ✴️ It’s amazing how our mental and emotional states can be changed so quickly, in this case from high, distracting emotions to calmness and allowing the mind to focus in on the job at hand. ❇️ We don’t always have our own personal dj hanging around to help us to re-regulate our emotions and thoughts, so we have to come up with strategies to help ourselves, whether we’re in a sporting arena or any other part of our lives. 📌 Whether that’s thought stopping, creating an anchor to tap into the desired state or a number of other methods, having them ready is key.
