Necessity is the mother of invention and I love seeing innovative beta tests succeed in environments that never would have existed without being forced as a last option. Northwestern's new stadium is coming no matter what, but other schools pondering a stadium/arena change will no doubt look to this serendipitous example and take an adjusted path - big or small - with their plan design. Witnessing evolution in sports, in real time, is an incredible thing. #sponsorship #sportsmarketing #collegesports

Manchester United has made a significant decision to leave their historic home, Old Trafford, and build a new £2 billion stadium. This new development aims to create a state-of-the-art facility with a capacity of 100,000, making it one of the largest stadiums in Europe. The decision comes after extensive consultations and fact-finding missions to other major stadiums, including the Bernabeu and Nou Camp in Spain, and the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Old Trafford has been Manchester United's home since 1910 and has undergone several expansions over the years. However, the club's management, led by part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has determined that the logistical challenges and costs associated with redeveloping the existing stadium would be prohibitive. Instead, they have opted to build a new stadium on club-owned land adjacent to the current site. The new stadium is set to be a modern marvel, inspired by the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. It will not only serve as a venue for football matches but also aim to regenerate the surrounding area of Trafford. The SoFi Stadium, part of a £4 billion 'Hollywood Complex', has been a model for how a stadium can contribute to urban regeneration. The club has engaged with 30,000 fans to gauge their opinions on whether to stay at Old Trafford or move to a new stadium. The feedback revealed a near 50-50 split among supporters. Despite the mixed feelings, the club believes that a new, state-of-the-art facility is essential for maintaining its status as one of the world's leading football clubs. One of the significant concerns with redeveloping Old Trafford was the potential need for the team to temporarily relocate, which could have led to a loss of matchday revenue. Various interim solutions were discussed, including playing at nearby stadiums like the Etihad or Bolton's Reebok Stadium. However, the decision to build a new stadium adjacent to Old Trafford mitigates this issue, allowing the club to continue operations without a significant disruption. The funding for the new stadium is still under discussion, with a mix of public and private funding being considered. The club has already reached out to the new Labour Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, who has shown openness to government support for improving transport links as part of the project. Manchester United's decision to build a new £2 billion stadium marks a new chapter in the club's illustrious history. While leaving Old Trafford is a significant move, the new stadium promises to offer a world-class experience for fans and contribute to the regeneration of the Trafford area. The project is expected to be completed by 2030, ushering in a new era for the Red Devils. #ManchesterUnited #OldTrafford #NewStadium #Football #StadiumDevelopment #ManUtd #RedDevils #FootballStadium #SportsNews #PremierLeague #FootballFinance #FootballBusiness #SportsInfrastructure https://lnkd.in/dbBjbF_x

For European investors eyeing stable growth, U.S. sports are where it's at. Unlike European leagues with unpredictable revenue swings, American teams benefit from salary caps and revenue-sharing, making them cash-flow machines even when seasons get rocky. And with the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, MLS, in particular, is primed for serious growth—private equity and sovereign wealth funds have opened multiple exit opportunities for legacy owners in U.S. sports franchises. #SportsInvestments #WorldCup #PrivateEquity
