I wish more recruiters adopted and internalized this analogy. Successful pro sports agents understand the relationship implies working together as a long term, mutually beneficial *PARTNERSHIP*. I'm stealing this analogy from now on to explain what I'm looking for in a representative. I require a partner who advocates for me. In exchange I partner and advocate for them as their eyes and ears on the ground. Recruiters who consistently advocated for me *always* get the first call no matter who they're working for now. They earned my trust by demonstrating ownership of their role in our partnership. Some of them I first worked with 20+ years ago like Tim Stormoen. Their investment in good faith partnerships continues to payoff to this day. As my earning potential increased, so did theirs. Most "recruiters" I've recently interacted with focus on getting paid immediately with the least possible effort. They've had no interest in relationships with consultants. For the first time in my 25 year career I have a blacklist for recruiters and fly by night agencies. We need more like Ryan McKesson!
"I am like a sports agent, but for IT professionals." For the past 10 years, this is how I have explained what I do for a living to my Mom. And you know what? I still think it is wildly accurate. As an ESOP, all of our consultants (athletes) are full time employee owners of SDG. Which provides me a roster of known consultant athletes to represent. It is then my job to build relationships with customers who are looking to add talented new players to their teams for the upcoming season. And for a kid who wanted to grow up to be a sports agent, this is pretty cool. To learn more about the actual work we do, check out our new website: https://lnkd.in/ehW-v-em

Guess what day it is? National High Five Day! Yes, it’s real. 🙌 In honor of the only day that celebrates slapping hands together in mid-air, let’s acknowledge the high five. It’s not just for sports wins or sealing questionable decisions; it’s a universal way to say, “Hey, we did a thing,” without the need for pesky words. ✨ So, whether you’re celebrating a small victory or just made it through another Zoom call without falling asleep, give yourself a high five. Or better yet, awkwardly attempt a virtual one that doesn’t quite land. It’s the thought that counts, right? 🤚💥 Let's raise those hands not just for achievements, but because we can. Happy National High Five Day! May your palms be ever ready and your timing impeccable. #NationalHighFiveDay #EZMarketing

Whenever I played sports during my school days, I always loved being a captain... The feeling of making decisions, choosing your team, handling the responsibility and making peace with the losses! The thing I loved the most was choosing my teammates. We all always have that one friend we can count on, don't we? The person who might not be the best player ever but just having that one in your team gives you a sense of calmness and strength to take on difficult moments in the game. I have now understood that this applies to all the teams (even outside sports). My team has such key players. That colleague who might not have everything figured out but just having him/her by your side gives you a sense that you can meet the deadline, you can talk with senior client team members, you can solve x, y, z, etc. While having that player by your side is important, being that player for someone is equally (if not more) important. How can you become a better teammate today? Follow Gaurav Shirwalkar for more P.S - This picture is from an event where I was the host.

Being a generalist vs. specialist in football - which is the better approach? There are several pros and cons to becoming either a generalist or specialist in football. Typically early on in our careers, we are generalists learning the ropes and helping out where necessary. But as your career progresses, there may be opportunity to become more specialist in a specific area (e.g. return to play). Practitioners should be aware of these pros and cons before making such a decision. Check out my free guide for more information: https://lnkd.in/e7V3SnRs

💡 Today, in an interview with FSP Magazine, I talked about the difference between a Manager and a Sports Manager for me. Methodology and results make a Manager. But they need empathy and a social perspective to become a succesful Sports Manager. ⚽ 🏟
