Building trust throughout an organization is crucial in today's modern workplace. Trust sets the stage for everything employees open themselves up to or close themselves off from. For any technology-oriented project to be successful, it must be founded on trust from those expected to embrace it. Trust is reciprocal between employer and employee, but I believe an organization’s leadership sets the tone. The way leaders demonstrate trust significantly shapes how employees react to change.

💻 Technology is supposed to make us work more efficiently. However, the 2024 Gray Work Index by Quickbase highlights a troubling trend: 54% of workers believe maintaining day-to-day productivity is harder than ever. 👨💻 A staggering 94% of respondents report feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of software solutions they are required to use, a notable increase from 87% in the previous year. 👩💼 The technology overload contributes significantly to what Quickbase defines as “Gray Work” — tasks that consume resources but fail to contribute meaningfully to the organization’s goals. 🖐 Moreover, the survey unveils that 74% of employees see no reduction in manual work, with 58% spending less than half of their typical workweek on meaningful tasks. ℹ Further compounding the issue, 45% of workers spend 11 hours weekly just chasing information across their organization, highlighting critical inefficiencies in data management and accessibility. 🤖 There’s a silver lining in the form of artificial intelligence (AI), with 92% of survey participants expressing curiosity about AI’s potential to enhance productivity and efficiency. 🔎 Read more and download the report! #contech #AI #productivity #software #survey #aecbusiness

In Chapter 6 of Making Hybrid Working Work (out 3 January but can be pre-ordered from the link in the comments), I examine the issues organisations must face around use of technology (including AI) and the design of their physical workplace. Both are critical for a modern organisation but often are left to chance. It is tempting as an organisational leader to think that all these things aren't connected, but they are. The whole organisational system needs to be considered, not just to make hybrid working work, but to make your organisation work better. Chapter 6 offers a good insight into how. How is your organisation doing with these challenges? #MakingHybridWorkingWork Kogan Page HR Insights
