Not sure how to get started in the federal workforce? Be like Brittanie, an IT project manager for the United States Air Force: "After 20 years in the private sector, I wanted to be in a capacity to directly serve my country. I began garnering the education and certifications to augment my relevant experience. I volunteered with organizations that were in line with federal service initiatives. I obtained publicly available certifications through federal entities (e.g. FedVTE). I learned how to create a federal resume. I followed federal social media channels on my Facebook and LinkedIn. I learned of the Air Force Civilian Services Job Fair and I arrived prepared and ready to present my hard work to anyone that would listen. I received a job offer the same day." You know we love a series here at SECO ❤️! And this one? It's all about transferable skills 🤹. So, stay tuned as we dive deep into how you can use the experiences you've had as a MilSpouse to set yourself apart in today's job market. 🥁 First up ... time management ⏰ and teamwork 🤝! When we say time management we mean things like juggling family obligations, career pursuits and personal interests — things MilSpouses like you are well-acquainted with. Beyond that, time management showcases your ability to prioritize tasks, set a clear and organized schedule and meet deadlines. MilSpouses with this skill have high productivity and can work in fast-paced environments within quick decision-making roles. And when we say teamwork, we're referring to the way in which you can thrive with the support of fellow MilSpouses within the military community, cultivating collaboration and teamwork skills along the way. Teamwork is a skill that any hiring manager can appreciate. MilSpouses interact with people from different backgrounds quite often, giving you the ability to continuously learn from others to improve your skills. MilSpouses with this skill maximize efficiency towards a common goal. These two skills are 🔥 on their own, but together, they can take your career to the next level ⬆️. Schedule a consultation with a SECO career coach to see how you can weave these transferrable skills into your resume ➡️: https://lnkd.in/eQ8xpZm9.

Speaking at the Labour Party Conference yesterday, Defence Secretary John Healey announced a new recruitment drive aimed at attracting tech-savvy Britons, particularly gamers, to join the military. With a shortage of drone pilots and the increasing importance of tech expertise in modern warfare, this initiative highlights the changing nature of defence and security. Healey revealed that the UK has faced over 90,000 attempted cyber-attacks on its defence systems in the last two years, further underscoring the need for cutting-edge talent. By scrapping outdated policies that previously prevented people from signing up – including restrictions around hayfever and eczema – the military is widening the pool of potential recruits. Those with skills honed in the gaming world could now be pivotal in roles such as drone operation, where console-like precision is invaluable. At Morson, we see this as part of a broader shift across the sectors we work in, including aerospace, engineering, and defence. As the demand for tech skills continues to grow, particularly in areas like cybersecurity and drone piloting, we are committed to connecting individuals with the opportunities that make the most of their unique abilities. We’re proud to be at the forefront of these changes, helping industries adapt to the evolving landscape of modern technology and defence. Do you understand what “Self-Appraisal” means? Verifying your performance to compete with your own, regardless of your performance-comparison with that of others in the row. Are you wanted? How truly liked you are for what you do? Are you really deared, preferred and regarded for your contributions, and with certainty of your continuation, and with no risk or threat of substitution? That's the substance. How have you verified it for yourself? That is Self-Appraisal. I remember, the best pen-picture, a Captain of a warship wrote in the ACR of his lieutenant that read, "If there's a war tomorrow that I am summoned to go for, I want this officer with me and next to me on board my ship". Nothing else speaks in an appraisal except the bare fact that shows how much you are really wanted in that team of your chief. Verify if you are wanted and needed to continue. Check yourself. Check, verify and grow! A wonderful example is illustrated here. Yvv https://lnkd.in/gUkaGrAB
