Many North American neighbourhoods have been developed without taking into account the four things urbanists believe breed connection: street connectivity; community amenities; a mix of housing types; and a diversity of land uses. This is where Lakeview Village stands out. Not only will the community be unique given its lakeside location, it will be something that benefits everyone - today, tomorrow, and for generations into the future. Look around, and we’re starting to see the first signs of spring appear – new buds, lighter evenings, vibrant greens replacing the browns and greys of winter and, most importantly, the feeling of hope and new possibilities that always comes with warmer weather. It’s this feeling of hope and possibility we’re focusing on this issue, from the richness and inspiration on our doorsteps – our beautiful, diverse landscape – and how this is reflected in our city’s culture and community. Our outward-facing, trading, innovative forefathers made Peterborough and the surrounding area a magnet for settlers over the centuries, and this is a status we enjoy to this day as an ever-evolving, growing city rich in grassroots culture, arts, business, tech and learning. This issue, we’re featuring a range of people and projects that showcase some of the very best aspects of our communities and landscape. There’s a special feature on photographer and paramedic Chris Porsz – a regional treasure who has captured (and cared for) Peterborians for decades. His ‘Reunions’ collection of photographs became a global, viral hit – and we revisit some of his most iconic pictures, and the stories behind them. We also caught up with Matthew Bradbury, the CEO of Nene Park, to find out what Peterborough’s favourite green space has in store for us in the year ahead; we chat with the city’s poets; and we delve into a brand new centre for green technology being built right here, to enhance and future-proof learning and skills. For many, our region and city has been a haven – and we’ve got that covered, too, from refugees to artists. Read about the extraordinary Krystyna Lewandowska – Polish Jewish resistance fighter who, after World War II, found peace and freedom here, and John Clare, the 18th century peasant poet who overcame crippling class barriers to create work that endures to this day. We all know how special Peterborough and its people are – and we like to think of this issue in particular as celebrating that. Dig in, discover more about your city and its inhabitants, and what it has to offer. Click here to read the March 2024 edition: https://lnkd.in/eKN-xNR8

How the Hamilton2030 Commonwealth Games bid inspired Community Regeneration. Things are quiet now. Everything is in transition. Doubts and questions remain, about, well, everything. But something notable happened today in the City Of Hamilton. The start of something significant. While the dream of bringing the 2030 Commonwealth Games home for its centenary may be in abeyance, the vision of a movement of community stakeholders united around the goal of transformation and regeneration remains. And has witnessed new life today in the launch of an initiative inspired by the Commonwealth Sporting movement. Not surprisingly, it is called: "The Commons". The Commons is an initiative of local stakeholders redeveloping the city's key entertainment assets - those that would be central to any Commonwealth Games - and leveraging the effort to promote regeneration and revitalization throughout the community. The themes, values and ambitions of the Gaming movement have now manifest in the private sector's resolve to bring change directly and immediately to this city through infrastructure and compelling new programming - at its expense. This is what the Games movement can and has inspired. Whether or not the Games ever come back here. That flame burns brightly in all of us. And will not extinguish. Whether you are from Hamilton or not, we invite you to keep the Games dream alive by engaging and following the Commons initiative at the link below. Below is a repost & exactly what I have been speaking about, I noticed it last year when I ran for council & this year the liberal candidates who are for city council being an opposition party are boasting about it on social media for all to see That's not what city council is about We can do better If anyone from these residential communities that I have been excluded from, so far from social media & emails, I can see that it's Fairlanes, Concerto Westralian, Adagio, Reflections, Vue Tower, City Tower & 2 Saint Georges And another event at Frasier suites If any of you who have been mislead to believe that there are only 3 candidates, when there are actually 5 this year, would like to ask me anything or if you'd like to meet me, I can also put you in touch with the other excluded candidate, Jason Bo, because that's the right thing to do, please email daveinperth@outlook.com Some East Perth residents have been duped with just 2 weeks to go in the @cityofperth Extraordinary Election … I’ve been informed that a misleading flyer was sent to all residents of at least one East Perth apartment building on Tuesday 24 September 2024. The flyer stated: “Get to Know the representatives supporting the East Perth Precinct. You are invited to meet those Candidates at a function on Thursday 26 September 2024 …”. The flyer proceeded to name just three candidates – Steve Wellard, Shirley Vine and Adam Pacan. The implication being that just these three candidates were supporting East Perth. While Steve Wellard, a Liberal party member who lives in North Perth, was on the list. Strangely East Perth resident Jason Bo was left off the list. Also left off the list was David Lee. Both Jason and David have been actively campaigning on matters of interest to East Perth. I have been told at the event were people from Westralian - Adagio - Reflections – Vue Tower – City Tower – Concerto – Fairlanes - 2 Saint Georges / 8 Victoria Avenue If you know anyone who lives in those apartment buildings I encourage you to let them know they’ve been duped. #honesty #transparency #perthcity #eastperth #westperth #perthcbd #northbridge #nedlands #crawley #perthcommunity
