This time last week South Coast Traffic Management Ltd were busy setting up for Devon County Show. This was the Devon County Show’s 128th year! Another corker from Transport Planning Society! Some key takeaways.... Framing is important. 🚘 'Reducing car use' - sounds processy, unlikely to be popular with the public (esp given the seven in ten UK adults who say their lifestyle means they need a vehicle - link to Ipsos UK research in comments). 🌫 'Reducing carbon emissions', or even focusing on better travel options, improved access to places and better travel experiences - closer to being outcome led and emphasises choice and benefits. Secondly, talks from Sharon Payne and Ed Downer highlighted the importance of gathering robust evidence on how people travel (sounds way easier than it is!), and opinions of what needs to change, from public and stakeholder audiences. Would recommend becoming a Transport Planning Society member if this sort of thing piques your interest! #TPDay2024 #TPDay

It is great to see the FIA bringing this event to Portsmouth. It provides a fantastic opportunity to network and talk through some key issues that are challenging the built environment, especially those of lithium ion batteries and building safety cases. With regard to the requirement for a safety case, it is vitally important that they are focused, proportionate and relevant, and it is this topic that I have been asked to present on Wednesday.
