Always on the hunt for new words. #proprioception
Physical controls are effective in part because of our sixth sense, known as proprioception. Distinct from the sense of touch, proprioception describes our innate awareness of where our body parts are. It is the reason we can know the position of all our limbs in three-dimensional space down to the precise position of the tips of our fingers.

Dr. Melissa E. Heche dropping essential knowledge once again! Custom In-Ear Monitors (CIEMs) aren’t a quick fix for sound-induced hearing loss; they’re a foundational tool in a much larger process. Investing in the *right* CIEM gives you some control over harmful sound exposure, but to fully protect your hearing, additional equipment, education, and discipline are key. These impressive little devices are just one part of a comprehensive approach to hearing health!

October is Protect Your Hearing Month. As a musician, I've been asked quite a few times if in-ear monitors can also act as hearing protection...
"In-ear monitors by themselves are not hearing protection devices."
I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Melissa E. Heche to discuss in-ear-monitors. Why are they important? Why not just use the wedge monitors vs. IEMs?

Rediscovering Apple's Buried Treasure: The Saga of the Lisa Computer
In an enthralling journey back to 1989, a Verge video crew and I embarked on a quest to Logan, Utah, amidst the harsh winter, in search of Apple's most notorious endeavor - the Lisa computer. The Lisa represented Apple's pioneering attempt at a user-friendly, graphically driven desktop, complete with innovative features like a mouse, windows, icons, and menus. Despite its groundbreaking design, the Lisa struggled with a hefty price tag and technical issues, ultimately overshadowed by the Macintosh.
Our expedition was inspired by the story of approximately 2,700 unsold Lisa computers, rumored to have been buried in a Logan landfill. This venture wasn't just about unearthing technology; it was a deep dive into the dramatic history of innovation, failure, and the relentless pursuit of progress that defines the tech industry. Despite the challenges and the impossible odds of finding the Lisas, our journey shed light on the importance of recognizing and learning from past failures.
This story isn't just about the Lisa or Apple; it's a testament to the tech community's resilience and innovation. As professionals in this ever-evolving industry, let's take a moment to appreciate our journey's hurdles and triumphs. Here's to the visionaries who pave the way for the future, even if it means confronting their buried past.
Watch the full documentary on The Verge to explore the incredible story of the Lisa's final act and how Apple's determination to innovate, regardless of obstacles, has led to its present-day success.

Somehow 'My Little Pony' communicated to my target audience clearer than I ever have.
Context is that the character feeding the pigs (Applejack) went to the spa with a friend but didn't end up relaxing due to the spa having long lines to get into the steam room. Turns out the spa staff were following processes that resulted in all the steam being used elsewhere and resulted in the room taking forever to warm up. She was quickly able to recognize the root cause and used her practical knowhow to resolve the problem then and there. In the meantime, Twilight offered to feed Applejacks pigs so that Applejack could relax without thinking about the farm. The pig feeding process got a little complicated…
Moral of the story for us in business (or even personally) is that it is incredibly easy to miss how we could be doing something seemingly innocuous from our perspective, but from the outside it can seem horrendously inefficient. This can be a mix of not knowing other options exist, simply losing sight of why we perform certain actions in the first place or even having some key people resistant to any change. This is far from an exhaustive list of reasons, but it does give a bit of an idea as to how this can happen at all.
If you think maybe it would be wise to get an outside perspective to check over your processes, don't hesitate to reach out to me. And if not me, get on the phone to a consultant you trust. A half hour chat over the phone might be all it takes to identify you could be saving many thousands of dollars, maybe even over a very short time frame.
Finally, if you have kids, I can't recommend this show enough. It's full of heart, has some great lessons to learn about being a genuinely good person and is surprisingly clever with the writing. I'm very much looking forward to seeing Lilith develop with this show helping develop her moral compass.
