What's a great way to say "thank you" to a valued partner from a far??? This one is easy, BBQ. I love to make BBQ. People love BBQ. Easy to bring in. Easy to share. To me BBQ is thoughtful food because it takes so much time, prep, effort and skill to get right. That's one of the reasons people appreciate it, they know its not easy to make. Heck, they may have failed as an at home pitmaster in the past. Or, if they are not failed at home pitmaster they'll surely want to try the BBQ. It often evokes a conversation about the process. People like to talk BBQ. What's your favorite BBQ food to eat? If you're a pitmaster, what's your favorite BBQ to make? Also, shout out to Dinosaur BBQ in Rochester, NY!

Lessons from the garden: 1. If you want butterflies, you have to put up with the caterpillars. 2. The only win-win move is to plant more than they can eat.

A winging endorsement…. 🪽 After a lot of trial and error, our bird feeder is fairly established now. Sparrows, starlings and blue tits all flock to frequent our little bistro. 💕 But it's strange how it seems more personal when only one or two creatures come to visit rather than whole packs. Like our solitary blackbird who steadfastly ignores the chattering starlings swirling around the feeder and happily feeds from the grass. Or the two wood pigeons who are always waiting on our fence first thing in the morning for breakfast. 🥞 And there's the pair of magpies who are late risers and come along everyday for brunch. Now we have new guests: a couple of pretty collared doves who try to get there before the pigeons eat all the seed. 🐦 Don't get me wrong, I love the flocks of birds, but it does somehow seem more like a seal of approval when singletons or couples decide to come back again and again. It's just like the hospitality business. All groups large and small are welcome but you know that regularly returning couples have chosen to spend their time and money with you, and their patronage confirms that you're getting it right. 🤔 Mmm, maybe we should open another branch!
