The Montana Supreme Court ruling that Sandfire Resources America Inc's Black Butte Copper Mine can move forward in late February and a Ninth Circuit Court upholding a lower court's ruling to move forward with a previously approved federal land swap for Resolution Copper's proposed Copper Mine in early March are much needed wins for U.S. National Security, the U.S. achieving Copper Independence, and the U.S. responsibly moving towards a green energy future. But there's still much more work to be done. The U.S. is blessed with great projects in Minnesota that include Twin Metals Minnesota LLC's proposed copper-nickel-cobalt mine and NewRange Copper Nickel's NorthMet project and similar to Black Butte and Resolution, both projects have faced challenges in the permitting process. Additional great steps would be making sure that both NewRange and Twin Metals have a clear path to success, rather than facing hurdles in permitting. A Story of Transformation at Bell Creek Mine At the Bell Creek gold mine in Ontario, a significant challenge had been hindering operations: screens were frequently clogged by fibrous material from blasting, leading to increased downtime, poor dewatering, and the need for secondary screening. ❌ Reduced Throughput + Second Screen ❌ Escalated Energy Consumption + More Man Hours ❌ HIGHER COST PER TON Polydeck experts, John Griffith and Perry Miller, stepped in to tackle this issue head-on. They conducted multiple visits to the mine, meticulously gathering data to understand the problem and devise a targeted solution. Their strategy? To introduce custom-designed POLYDEX® panels that promised to directly address the blinding issue while improving drainage rates. The results? ✅ Significant enhancements to dewatering results with little water proceeding past the last row of panels. ✅ Resisted blinding, drastically reducing screening and maintenance time. ✅ Eliminated the need for second screen, reducing maintenance time, energy consumption, and process water. Nick Muskovac, a Metallurgical Technician at Tahoe Resources, praised the intervention: "Increased drainage with Polydeck panels has allowed us to bypass the secondary trash screen, providing critical savings in maintenance, energy, and water. Polydeck's customer service and dedication to solving our screening issues have been exemplary."

BREAKING: PolyMet Permit Review Paused by Minnesota DNR until August 2025! The Minnesota DNR has paused brief writing on the PolyMet copper-nickel mine permit application pending Glencore/Teck Resources/NewRange studies of possible project changes. WaterLegacy welcomes the DNR’s recognition that additional briefs at this time could waste resources on a dead mine project. But we believe the DNR should also deny the permit application and let the new owners start over, not just kick the can down the road. Full press release here: https://lnkd.in/graZacPu
