Identity Week America Day 1 went by so fast I didn't get so much as a single picture. *sad trombone* I did get to see some really great tech from several vendors, especially the latest and greatest in combined face and iris capture. IDEMIA National Security Solutions, Iris ID Systems Inc, Thales Trusted Cyber Technologies, NextgenID, NEC Corporation of America, and CMITech Company, Ltd. Ginormous thank yous to Molly Taylor-Fagan for inviting me to speak and John Wagner for hosting Face Recognition in Focus and allowing my non-answer answer about the evolution of face recognition in travel and improvements in face recognition accuracy.* Also, thank you to the other members of the panel: Yevgeniy Sirotin, PhD, Arun Vemury, Christopher Centamore, and Joel Brogan. Biometric Security: 1:1 vs 1:N Matching and Liveness Detection Biometric authentication, like facial recognition, balances convenience and security. However, the approach differs depending on the use case. 1:1 matching, used in phones and local access control, verifies against a single stored template for quick access. 1:N matching, employed at airports, scans against vast databases for identification, making it slower but crucial for security checks. Liveness detection technology combats spoofing attempts (fake photos/masks) by verifying a live person is present. This allows 1:1 matching to remain fast for device access and strengthens 1:N matching for security checks.
