This has been a dream of mine since creating Fusion-io and NVMe.... the ability to actually use it for shared storage without sacrificing any of its extreme performance potential. Tier 0 and the Linux "LOCALIO" enhancements that just went into upstream Linux make that dream a reality. Now you can have your cake and eat it, too; you can have the convenience of networked shared storage and the full extreme performance of direct attached NVMe - and you can do all of this WITHOUT A SINGLE BIT of 3rd party software on the node! It's all built into the standard unmodified Linux kernel. Thanks to the Hyperscale NAS architecture the control plane is side-band and not in the data-path.
