Hiring managers, this post is for you! If you are interviewing leadership candidates to join your organization, and you find yourself frustrated trying to come up with the right questions to ask in an interview, we wrote The Five Talents That Really Matter just for you. We have a chapter in the book dedicated to transforming your selection process, and we’re giving you a set of excellent interview questions to build from that will encourage candidates to open up and tell you what they really think. As a leader, decisions about who you hire are the most important and most difficult ones you will make. You really can’t afford to get it wrong, and I want to help you manage the inevitable biases that creep into the process if you currently lack more objective methods of assessing candidates. If you have a favorite interview question, I want to hear it. Add them into the comments below, and tell me what you’re hoping to hear in a candidate’s response. #TheFiveTalentsThatReallyMatter

"Before we end this conversation, what's one thing that you want me to take away from this meeting that we haven't yet talked about?" In asking this, I want to make sure the candidate has the chance to differentiate themselves (in their words) or has the ability to reflect back on the full conversation and point out something they learned and that ties back to why they would be a strong (the best) candidate to help the company grow.
