For people just getting into product safety and compliance, the fundamentals course is a great introduction and a great way to build a strong foundation. I can't recommend it enough, there is a ton of knowledge and experience with these presenters that will help get a career off to an amazing start!

Last day of July. Take time to reflect on the past month. What was achieved? What’s still to do? What tasks are you putting off? Today is the best day to take action. - start that task that you are delaying - sign up to a training course for YOU - put processes in place to achieve your target 🎯 Take time today away from work to brainstorm. List all the things you want to achieve in August, Q3 and then by the end of the year. Then put steps in place (little ones each day) to blow them out the water.

I am reposting this SPSP — Society of Product Safety Professionals instructor profile of Donald Mays because this "Fundamentals of Product Safety" program in September is going to be an excellent overall learning opportunity for attendees. In particular, Don is a great speaker with wide-ranging experiences from which we can all learn--especially, me! He is a regular guest lecturer in my product-safety engineering (and ethics) course in the University of Utah Dept. of Mechanical Engineering every Fall. But, Don is only ONE of the numerous outstanding instructors who will be there to speak and to answer questions. To paraphrase Otto von Bismarck, "it's unnecessary to learn from your own mistakes when you can learn from mistakes made by others." 5 things my client did recently to get their boss to delegate the big juicy areas he wanted, and get the autonomy he was seeking, after: asking repeatedly for 6 months; pointing out his manager’s overwork; demonstrating his extra capacity; highlighting bottlenecks that were causing delays. And getting nowhere. 1. Checked the organisation of the Department: which areas jigsawed together. 2. Understood the boss’s perspectives, and carefully uncovered ALL of the concerns. 3. Mapped how moving certain areas would help them both and why; demonstrated how improvements would work. 4. Showed how the boss could focus on more valuable work, that only they could do; and how this benefited to the Company. 5. Approached the boss with peers and a plan, and a collective and cohesive message they all bought into. The pre-work was done. The boss just needed to sign off. ✔️ Win for the client. ✔️ Win for their Company. ✔️ Win for the boss (and win for my client’s team). Want the skills to be that smooth an operator?
